Hi,

I just recieved a used delta audiophile 2496. I've read many of the impressions on the digital out quality of this sound card, so I swapped it with my revo. I do notice a difference in quality, with one side effect, which 'is' the sound card. I constantly hear this random "chip". A very subtle one, almost like a sound a turntable makes... I know it's the card, and not my DAC, or new zucable ASH (which btw is AWESOME).

This is really pissing me off... I thought it may be a setting, a loose connector none of the above. All I have noticed is the connector is gold, while my zucable has the silver connectors.

Can someone offer their advice?

The sound isn't consistant with music, it just seems to come around here and there. I tested the other card and didn't see the problem.

Where do i go from here?

BTW incase you forgot, my dac is the benchmark DAC1... I compared the sound with the coaxial plugged directly into my dvd rom, which has no chipping sound.

Maybe it's PCI bandwidth contention. Try changing the DMA buffer or PCI slots?

aside from that the card sounds amazing out of the DAC. The wire isn't even broken in yet, and I've already decided this blows away the dvd player. I'll try playing with the card after my final tommorow : /

I hope the digital out on the card isn't messed up : /

don't worry, mjg, chirping is really common on new sound card set-ups. it's almost certainly a problem rooted in the pci bus. you have three immediate options: 1) changing your latency settings; 2) swapping pci card slots; or 3) changing irq settings. imo, it's probably, as already suggested, a latency issue. hopefully, it can be resolved simply by changing your settings in your player or the card's software, but, just in case, you may have to take a look at just how much bandwidtch your other cards are hogging. out of curiosity, what was the card you had in place b4, or are you still using it? if you are still using it, or are using an integrated, you might want to set that as your default player, and just let your m-audio handle your audio playback in your player software. sometimes that helps too. finally, you should know that the first thing to do with any soundcard is go to the manufacturer website to update your drivers.
