Quick question-- I am thinking about ordering some of the Audiotechnica cans (not sure which model yet) from audiocubes, and someone mentioned getting hit with customs taxes. Is this a definite? They've got some good deals on the AT stuff, but if you add on $40 custom taxes, the price isn't near as good...

any experiences with this? It would be shipped to the US, so I'm not sure if I would get hit with customs charges or not...

thanks guys.

Oops forget I said anything before,
you may be charged, but its unlikely. I think there's a clause in the site somewhere which says that if you're bunged with tax they reimburse you provided you send them the tax receipt.

supposedly if it's under $300 there's no tax. or audiocubes pays for it and it is already built into the price.

If the value is over $300 they can charge a duty coming into the country. I got dinged $48 for my Corda HA-1 and HD600 but a friend didn't pay a cent for the RKV MKII. Go figure?

I think the Audio Cubes policy is they will reimburse you if you get taxed due to an error in the way they were shipped. In other words if you specified for items to be shipped a certain way and they failed to do so and were taxed as a result then they will reimburse you the taxes.

I should have gotten taxed since Finnish rules are a good bit more strict. Who knows why I didn't? Maybe the customs didn't correctly convert the value correctly, maybe Audiocubes ate the cost (yeah right), or maybe there's some better agreements between Finland and Japan. The end result is that I didn't get taxed for once and am a happy camper.

Here's the next experience: I ordered and then cancelled a pair of Sony CD3K headphones. I will post later as to how they handled my refund, but so far it has been several days and I haven't seen anything like a check or info from them. I'll keep you all posted once I get some news about my refund!!!
