Audio Technicha W10LTD, W10VTG, W11JPN

Some people think that classic AT woodies are all cut from the same fabric, but actually they each sound quite different from one another. The W10vtg is a fun, musical sounding phone with a forward upper midrange. It's tonality varies a bit depending on the production run, but it's generally warm, mildly colored and quite seductive with vocals. It's less laid back than the W11jpn. The W11jpn is usually preferred over the others. It has an even more seductive and fuller sound than the W10vtg. The mids are wonderfully lush and beautiful. But, they are not the last word in detail and speed. Although, this can does have good PRAT. It's also the more balanced of the three.

The W10LTD is a thinner, brighter headphone that sounds a bit more like the current AT W1000 than the others you mention.

I'm just wondering if anyone can shed any further insights into the differences between the W10VTG and W11JPN. I just got a W10VTG and was wondering if the W11JPN is different enough sounding to warrant owning both.

i also thought there were 4, but only 3.
and the w1000 was also mentioned, and i was just wondering if it is liked at head fi or not.
it is pretty old, so not really FTOM, but why is not liked as much as the others, even though many have reported better sound?

That's what I thought too, until I found this combo:

Samsung Z98G CDP > MicroShar u107B > W11JPN.

The treble roll off that people speak off is essentially gone too. Before this, yeah, there was a roll off, I experienced this myself. But with this combo, things are sweeeet. It now has equal or more sparkle than my ES7.

I plan to do a review in the future comparing the W11jpn, to the AD2000 and Darths, but I just don't have the free time at the moment.

I had the feeling a lot of people listened to - but disliked them. I can’t imagine why, they’re definitely still one of the best pair of headphones I’ve heard (slightly behind AD2000 + W5000 / F5005 probably). They’re quite neutral but bright IMO, modded with wool you get excellent bass. Very wide soundstage. A lot of detail and extension. That’s what I remember about them.

pretty much my thoughts on them. they are bit anaemic on the bass, but i dont mind. i mean they are like a better, more balanced version of the k701. they have all the plus of the k701s, but also have very good mids, and a half decent bass. what mod are you talking about with the wool? and has anyone tried the fitz mod with the w1000? i was thinking of doing it in about a month or so, jjust to try and see the difference.

I tried. Skip the Fitz mod. What I was talking about, just stuff the pads out with wool all around, that will help the bass. At least it did for me.
If I had to pick out one of my former headphones, which I’d buy again, it would be the W1000.

as in on the inside, just between the pads and the seethrough cloth mesh thing? gotcha.
*goes off to find wool*
and also thanks for the info on the fitz. good thing i waited then.

edit:
did not have cotton wool, but had cotton pad things, which were affective the same. results?
i do no know if the bass has been improved, and if it has, it is not a major improvement. but the comfort is soo much better. before my ears were crushed, and i constantly adjusted them etc. now the extra smape is oo libertating. i could not care less about the bass. this is just soo much better.
thank you!!!!

edit #2:
just put on a song that i knew, and had some bass in it. and wow, i suddenly notice it. now i don't know if that might be because i am looking for it or waht, but i do beleive it has increased. there is however a much more seperated soundstage. its not necceserily greater, but each area is just more pronounced. obviously i ahve to turn up my music just a bit, as the drivers are a bit further away, but i dont think it is loud. i like this mod very much, cost me a few pence, and a minute, and the effects are quite evident. thanks!
