Hey guys, I added the CKN70 to the Head-Fi database (as well as my own review).

I didn't really like these but it may be worth you guys posting your own findings there so we have an idea of what tips work best!

Can somebody please compare the sound of These CKNs to the well liked ATH-M50?

As a rule people don't really like to compare headphones to earphones on Head-Fi.

I'll give it a go: I don't think the M50 has as much mid-bass as the CKN70 and the highs are smoother on the M50 (though the M50 still has an edge to it's sound). The M50 does not really sound as fast as the CKN70. This of course all depends on what tips you are using for the CKN70.
 
Of course the M50 will not have as much long term wearing comfort as your K702... clamping force is quite high and they are a closed headphone after all.

i find them the total opposite way. just great even with the stock tips

I've heard people complain about the harsh treble on the CKN70, but I haven't seen much of that on this thread.

I haven't heard that complaint much on this thread either. I have heard how they smooth out with 500 - 700 hours of burn-in. Mine never seemed to smooth out though even after 500 hours of burn-in so I was up for trying the Philips tips that another poster raved about. They made a huge difference for me.
 
I kept hearing how great the CKN70's sounded but the harsh treble was becoming an insurmountable hurdle for my enjoyment of them. If they don't sound harsh to you then enjoy!

@ Digirato - What differences do the SHE3590 tips make to the rest of the sound on the CKN70's? I might buy the SHE3590 just for the tips as it only costs £7.49 ($11.34).

I've heard they are good bargain iem's too so that's a bonus I guess.

To my ears the entire range from bass to the highest notes sound superb. I get what you're asking and I was listening for part of the sound spectrum to be recessed or over emphasized.
 
The only area that can be over powering is the bass if I jam them in tight and turn up the volume. Bass heads would love that effect but it's painful to my eardrums so I don't do it. It's the most bass I've ever heard from an IEM. At reasonable listening levels the overall result with these tips is well balanced, detailed and highly enjoyable. Everyone hears differently but this is truly how they are for me.

Yes, the Philips SHE3590. I think you'll be very pleased.
 
I listened to them quite awhile last night and love the rich, full sound sig. The highs have a smooth brilliance instead of the former harsh piercing quality.
