I know there are many reviews and talks about audio technica cans, but then i have never seen a thread or a post about these.
My friend has these, as some may remember from my other thread, but has anyone EVER tried these?
because if someone has, he/she may be able to help me with my choices! (i want an upgrade to that, if there is an upgrade in this type of headphone with this particular kind of sound - studio)

thanks!

rob

there are a few people who heard it but mostly not very positive.

i only hear the m30 and find it to sound pretty decent. and davie quoted he prefer the m30 to the m40 too.

the m30, what did it really sound like?

did it sound like hifi audiophile type headphones?

or did it have the raw sound where you could hear the tone of the actual recording, and hear everything so clearly in the mix?

or..?
thanks

i've heard the m40fs, unamped connected to a g4 and some mixers. They sound...ok... The sound is a little weak, anemic and thin with slightly shrill highs (which smoothed out a bit with burn in, but are still there). The pleather pads don't wear that well, so they'll look a bit ragged if you aren't careful.

hmm.. im seeing that they are not that good/popular then.

what studio phones would you recommend me then. i know about the K271's.

(im not using them for just studio work. most of the stuff is actually gonna be listening. but i like my stuff clear clear clear as in the studio

and NOT COLOURING the sound much like the hifi phones

edit. what i am looking for is phones that can give me the original tone of the recording, and not the tone that is eq'ed by the headphones..
thanks

Well, I have ATH-m40fs and HD600 and I must say I find the m40fs to be the most colored of the two. Since I got the HD600 I can't listen to the m40fs without a "yuck!" reaction. They are pretty detailed, but I don't think the mids are very accurate. Voices don't sound natural.

We use the M40fs' at University for editing in Pro-Tools! We have four pairs...

They're not that bad. They do their job, provide decent isolation, detail isn't the best.

I take my Sennheiser's in nowadays though....
