Audio-Technica IM50, IM70 Discussion Thread

IMO, IM50 is not a bass-head IEM instead its bass is good enough to enjoy every kind of music even edm. I didn't measure it but I think there is some roll-off after 40hz or so. You can feel that some subb-bass is missing.

I see. So does this mean that IM70 has even less?

I read in that write up that the 50s have huge bass. But you guys said it lacks slam. I'm confused.

Bass amount and bass impact(or slam if you choose) are two independent things. You can have a varying combination of the two depending of the ear/headphone.

I see. I'm definitely going to buy one of the two, now I just have to decide. Let me get this straight: IM50, more bass quantity, less quality. 70, vice versa. What about the rest of the spectrum?

I wouldn't call the bass on the 70 "less quantity". It actually has more than enough bass. Regarding the rest of the spectrum, i find them to be quite clean sounding, and very even throughout the whole range, though it might lack some high end, but for me they sound perfect. I have both, and despite i sort of like the 50, i like the 70 even more.

M50 has a good balance of highs, mids n lows. They sound good n enjoyable. He500 also puts out a good amount of bass. E main difference being e sub bass. He500(n akg702 modded) hit low not just in e head but right to e heart, e slam...its that little extra from head to heart that makes e music more dramatic n enjoyable. Like a roller coaster that goes to extreme highs n lows n not just swing in e center to keep everone happy.

Just purchased the IM70s, hope they were a good buy, need something for work that is better than the EPH100s and ATH-CKM500s that I'm using now.

Currently have the IE80s that I use at home and nothing I have really comes close, hope these do a better job than the others!

I'd like a comparison too, particularly with the EPH100.

Ok I just picked up the im50 instead of the im70. The store I was in had demos and I just love dynamic drivers and had to try both out. I tried the shures 215 just for comparison (they were about 150usd). Won't get too much into it but I'm not big on BAs and soundstage was narrow.

My take on it is that the im70 was a little too sibilant for vocals and lacked the low mids for male vocals. There was like some sort of artificial boost in ranges I didn't like. The im50s were like 50 bucks cheaper (no brainer price-wise) and they just sounded more even to me, big big soundstage and nice separation. Deep bass with clarity and punch and no muddies in the low mids. No real complaints considering I got them for like 60usd.

I have futuresonics mg6pros customs and I think the im50s are great for just general listening and not for live stage monitoring. The im50s will make a good backup in case my ciems are unavailable for whatever reason. They have great isolation and with music playing at moderate volume I can't hear a hairdryer 3 feet from me. These babies are coming on board my next plane ride.

I'm ordering my pair sometime next week hopefully and I'm probably going to go for the IM50s over the 70s.

Seriously im50s are really kickass for what they are priced at. I got myself a klipsch s4i on amazon for 59usd and really don't like the sound of them.

I stand corrected on the shure 215s :) point is: for that money you spend on the 215s you can get 2 of these that sound way way way better.

So, if you live in the states, where is the best place to buy IM50's?
