I am thinking about getting one of three audio-technica clip-on models for use with a PCDP. I can discern little but cosmetic differences between them. I am seeking information on the differences between the Audio-Technica ATH-EC7; the ATH-EM9d, and the ATH-EM9r models. Which clip-on would be the best one to buy? They appear to be virtually the same earphones. [especially the later two models...] These earphones can be seen at...TIA

AT clipons were once the flavor of the month here at head-fi! You can find a huge amount of reading material on them using the search. (The woodies are pretty).

I have the EW9's, woodie version of the EM9. Very nice phones lots of people here like them. I am not sure about what the d and r designations refer to.
The EC7 are a tiny earbud phone attached to a clip on frame. I heard a pair once for a little while. I have wanted to buy a pair since. I thought they were great. But, I only listened for a few minutes to them while they were connected to an ipod.
There are several threads on the EM9 or EW9. Hit the search button and you will be inundated with opinions.

Well, I don't think they were ever the flavor of the month, not enough people got them. However, seeing as how you (DLeeWebb) own the E5c and EX70, both relatively bassy canalphones, you might find the A-T clip-ons rather lacking, since they all have recessed bass without an exception.
