I have found very good deal for both of them.
the AKG K81 DJ is the same thing as the K518 right? just diffrent color
anyways, ive found geat deals for the AT's and AKG K81 an the AKG being about 10 dollars cheaper.
ive heard the AKG are a little bassy, but i don't think i would mind.
I wanted to have portable headphones so i chose these smaller sized over the huge full sized cans. Would feel to nerdy in public with those huge things

So in a professionals opinion which would be a great first headphone for me?

The FC700A are an underappreciated headphone here on Head-Fi, so you might not get a lot of responses. I vastly prefer them to the AKG K81 DJ. The AT have good bass, but it is not overpowering like the AKG. They are also more comfortable and more compact. There are people who love the AKG though. Welcome to Head-Fi.
