Yep, that's the intention! In fact, I'm thinking a comparison to ESW10JPN... which has a much better look/finish than ESW11LTD IMO.
 
When I had the chance to demo the ESW11LTD this February at Chang Fest, the ear cups looked very dull and understated.

Welp I just got a loan of the ES700 for two weeks which means that I will have all the metal ES series to compare. Fun fun fun!

Well I just got a new Firmware update for my Fostex hp_p1 and it makes the ATH-ES10 sing.
 
I was thinking of selling them for the ATH-ESW11 but now I am very happy.

I dont know about the stock pads on the ES10 as i changed my straight away -but i find the leather pads from ath-esw11 (put on the ES10) seems to provide fairly good/great isolation on public transport ( i commute by train).

I might try again with ESW9 pads. Once I get those.... For now they're still stuck in customs.
 
[EDIT] It probably also depends on how tightly they fit on your head. Mine... it's a wonder they don't fall off. Apparently I have a strangely formed head. Not really small, just kind of thin/narrow, I guess.

I'm thinking of getting a recabling job, too. My cable is going bad... since I abused the headphone way too much.
 
It'll be a complete makeover for the ES10. The sound is already perfect for my ears... but the looks... hmm... not so much. I think Audio Technica could have made the ES10 look far better. Same goes for the ESW11LTD.
 
Martin has made some headphones that look amazingly good, that's why I'm seeing if I can get him to do the same to my ES10. This'll be a keeper forever.

This is what I know so far about the ATH-ES10

It has deep, pounding bass, clear unclouded mids, and slightly bright highs.
 
It has subpar comfort with stock pads, but improves drastically after swapping out for the ESW-11 pads

It is more durable than it looks, but the metal cups scratch very eaisly

It doesn't really need a portable amp, but benefits greatly from them




Anything I missed? Anything I got wrong? Also, I would like to know how the ESW-11 pads alter the sound. Thanks!

They can also be a bit sibilant.

Is it just me or is the ES10 not really that bright? Headphones like the Beyer DTXX0 series and the Denon DX000 series and the Hifiman HE series are much brighter.
 
In fact, Audio Technica W1000X and W5000 are both brighter as well. The W3000ANV is the only other headphone from Audio Technica I know of that comes close to the treble presentation of the ES10.

I also dont find the ES10 overtly trebley, I did when I first tried the several years back then opted for the ESW9. Also the leather pads help I think.
