According to audio technica's Japanese website, the E40 has 2 x 12.5mm dynamic drivers. So yeah, dual drivers.

which one would be better with fiio x5have heard both e40 and a73 totally different sound signature. I would not even compare them
im70 or e40,which one have better detail retrieval?the strength of the e40 is its soundstage, very very wide and will provide an immersive experience.
quite a mid centric iem and sub bass is addictive. Treble extension is very well ( Im a treble head)
the cons are the details retrieval which isn't accurate. Bright and immersive sounding iem.
Definitely a good buy! Though it may be priced at 99 usd, however, i rate it at 299 usd. I am not sure how ath pulls off it but this iem is worthy of a buy.

If the A73 follows a darkish v-ahape, what's E40's tonal tuning?

They're completely different technologies though. One is your standard dynamic driver + BA, while the other is a dual dynamic driver push pull.
bright v shape
i'm a little confused, so E40 is quite a mid centric AND bright V shape?
