Hello everyone.

Let me first introduce myself. My name is Jon and I've been looking for a pair of headphones to isolate the computer noise in my cubicle. I've poked around this forum and it seems like a lot of people here are fans of the anc7 headphones. Basically I'm looking for a pair of decent sounding headphones that also block out the buzzes and whirs.

I have a couple of questions. Some user reviews have said that this pair of headphones does not work with rechargeable batteries, as their voltage is 1.2 V rather than the 1.5 V in regular alkaline batteries. Is this true? If so, what brand of batteries are you owners currently using?

Also, how is the sound quality? Now, I'm not an audiophile, and my current pair of headphones is a 30 dollar 2 year old logitech premium (right ..) headest. I'd like my new ones to have a decent upgrade in sound quality. I've read that the sound quality of noise cancelling headphones are not as good as normal headphones, but is it at least decent and worth its price tag?

Are there any other good noise cancelling headphones you guys would recommend? I am not considering IEMs as stuffing earplugs in my ears is uncomfortable for me. And I'd like to be able to hear the telephone ring too!

Looking forward to your replies!

Welcome and sorry for your wallet...standard Head-Fi welcome...

The ANC7 does well for the price that I got it. I found it before it popularity for less than 150$ US shipped. This is where I have posted most of my comments about these headphones:

It sounds like you may already have read this,if so, just disregard. I use the regular alkaline (whatever brand I have) AAA battery and get at least 40 hours on them. I would not listen to these phones without noise cancellation (NC) since they sound so much less than they can when on NC. They are very sensitive so you can use these without an amp but an amp will do you well with most headphones that have quality to them. Quality sound is very subjective and this is something that you will have to learn what favor of sound you enjoy best if you pursue this hobby.

These are the NC headphones that I recommend.

Thanks slwiser for your reply.

Can you list some of the things that you didn't like with these headphones? Anything that dissappointed you? They cost $180 and I don't want to be dissappointed with them. Is there any hissing?

Also are they supraaural or circumaural? It's listed as on ear on the audio technica web site but people have been saying it's over ear.

Thanks.

Circumaural, they go over my ears, just barely. I do have big ears. The sound without NC on is very poor in my estimation, worst that I would have thought they should be. So that is why I say don't use them if you think you would be using them without NC. I know of one person who seems to have had an issue with their headphone and some hiss. I have not had that problem. There are some who will be sensitive to the negative sound pressure that I originally argued as not be there but it really is. I have perceived this only a few times without much bother to me. So I have very few negative things to say about them. For the price I was surprise at the sound quality with NC on.
