Audio-Technica ATH-A900 Compatibility

[size=x-small]I've been considering the ATH-A900, I've never had a high quality pair of headphones, and what I mean by that is...well, frankly, in price, literally every pair clocked in the lower double digits.

Therefore I know nothing of high quality headphones, I have 5.1 PC Speakers and a Turtle Beach Riviera 5.1 soundcard, and I was wondering if either were compatible with these high quality headphones? I can't seem to find any information on them, I'd like to believe they are, the smaller plug logically would be.[/size]

best look at the specs on website that sell them. they do come in the regular sized jacks with a 3/4 adapter. also, hopefully someone has experience with you soundcard. if not, then youll just have to take the chance of getting the headphones, then upgrading the soundcard if it doesnt sound good

Yes, I saw the smaller plug =P I was wondering if that was compatible with a headphone jack/5.1 Digital soundcard on a PC, I think my soundcard could handle these, how well I don't know.

What do you mean by compatible? The A900 has a 1/8" plug, which is probably what your sound card supports. If you can plug regular headphones/speakers into your sound card, I'm sure the A900 will pose no problems.

Soundwise, I think the A900 sounds fine without an amp. It'll definitely improve with one, but right now I'm using the onboard sound (nvidia soundstorm) and the A900 sounds fantastic.

Well, there we have it, an answer, third forum and I finally got one. =P Yay, rather.

I'm not familar with most of the terms used for these Hi-Fi sets, I'm used to PC headset terms.

Ah, well, I have a Turtle Beach Riviera, so I'm sure it'd sound great on it, the 5.1 speakers do.

Is that turtlebeach suppose to be better than Audigy?

I have a crappy Audigy for my PC, and even with Audigy, the A900 sounds great. Very nice for watching DVDs too.
I think since you've never experienced "proper" headphone before, you'll be quite amazed the 1st time you put them on. (Unless of course you have a $30,000 speaker setup at home

)

However, I don't recommend connecting them through your PC speaker's headphone jack (the one that usually resides at the volume control).

It's best to connect it straight to the soundcard. If it's too troublesome (the connection is too far behind the back of your PC), you can always get a stereo cable extension so you can connect it to the back of the PC, and the other end to your headphone, so you don't have to reach to the back of your PC everytime you wanna use headphone.

About plug, A900 is terminated in 1/8 plug, but it also comes with an adaptor to make it become 1/4" plug, so you don't have to worry bout that.

Depends on what Audigy, it's better than their lower-end models, and many Audigy cards don't have a digital input, this one does, I wish I'd of gotten a Santa Cruz model, they've got a few neater features which really compare to the Audigy 2 for about half the list price.

I've never had anything nice =P I'm poor as hell, I'm surprised we can afford Comcast, so if I build up the dough this would be the first truly nice thing I've ever had, and I'm sure it's rather fantastic.

Well, my card has a VersaJack, so I can just plug it in back there without any issue, I'd probably try both to see if I noticed any difference though.

If you wanna get a soundcard, I don't think you wanna use Audigy 2 as a point or reference though.

But anyway, I'm quite sure you'll be happy with A900 and your current soundcard. Don't bother so much about everything else. That combo sure will give you pretty decent sound already.

The Audigy 2 line is one of the best PC soundcard lines out there, for everything in general it's spectacular, their new one wipes the floor with everything else too, but they're extremely expensive.

I'm sure it'd sound great, now that I have confirmation on it being compatible, I'll have to start towards my goal of gag 200 dollars.

Because of DVD-Audio i must buy creative.

TO have 5.1 speakers and Dvd audio with gaming is hard to have all in one.
There are better choices for music, but its tough to have everything.

Um... I'd look in the computer as source forums before making a statement like that. Last I checked folks mentioned the new Creative line as being a very good _all around_ card (5.1 and games), as you say, but for stereo use still not quite up to par with several other cheaper cards.

Well, it depends upon the speakers once you have a great card, like those new Logitech ones...Z-5500, I believe.

Well, the X-Fi pretty much kicks PC cards in the balls from what I understand, of course that's what I'm hearing from previews and the like, I suppose audiophiles would have a different opinion on it being better than almost anything available. =P

M-Audio's Audiophile 2496 card is awesome, and the price is so right!

The ease of use and the overall quality of the drivers and sonics is phenomenal for the price. Nice and cheap but very high quality.

The X fi was stated to have DACS compareable to 1820m EMU
and 2000 dollar receivers for the elite pro.
but its 400 dollars
The extreme music should be better than the ZS, but not sure how much.

To answer, yeah the 1/8th jack fits the line out of the soundcard.

#$%* if I have to live another day with this Plantronics headset I'm going to snap, it's comfort over Sennheiser is a deception, it's of a crappy build, mic cord broke for reasons unexplained, stress cracks, and now I have to hit it to stop it from dying. I reiterate, #$%*.

Thanks though, it's all I really needed to know, if I ever get it then I'm sure it'd be amazing.
