I have no idea why I got these. No, I do know...they were on discount, and more importantly they have 'Audio-Technica' on them. I automatically feel the need to buy anything A-T
biggrin.gif
.
I have absolutely no use for them, and most of my friends, being the style-conscious dudes and dudettes, don't want them (but they will probably take the worse-sounding ATH-EM7's off me at the drop of a hat
biggrin.gif
).

So, one ATC-H5 seeking a good home. As far as 'on my head' time goes, it's about an hour at the most. Unboxed. No instructions (look at the webpage if you need specs). Swinging fold system unlike Eggos or 7506, plus an ingenious spring-loaded auto-adjust headband...without a spring. best described as 'iMac blue'. Clear headband with white top. Size about the same as the Eggos. Fits in exactly the same way (circumaural). I'll mail it anywhere in the UK, Europe or the States at no cost to you.

Here's what they look like.

IGN review.
http://formen.ign.com/news/35530.html

The IGN review is a little over-enthusiastic. I'd say 5 or 6 out of 10 mainly because they have a closed 'honkiness' that the Eggos don't exhibit as much. They have a slightly rolled off treble but is quite sibilant...Although this could be due to lack of break-in. The bass is pretty powerful, but not over-flabby. The characteristics will probably suit low-grade sources (MP3-CD players, MDLP Minidisc, Casual MP3 use from PC soundcards). They're not quite open but aren't quite closed. The one thing in the IGN review which is very true is about the 'being secure in your masculinity'... The missus or the girlfriend might be happier with it.

Since there doesn't seem to be any etiquette for giveaways, and I feel embarrassed about setting competition quizzes for something so trivial, I'll make it fairly straightforward. I'll close this post tomorrow evening sometime. During which you can write why you want the phones. The post that makes me laugh most through great humour or sheer desperation gets it. I'll PM you for your address then and post it Monday.

Wow! That's just a really cool thing to do bangraman. Another example of why Head-Fi is such a cool place.

Hey Tuberoller, there is hope here yet!

I don't know if this will make you laugh, but if you give them to me, I'll reciprocate by posting my own give-away. We can start a kind of headphone round-robin.

It would also help me in search for my ultimate closed phones for portable use. And up my AT count to 3.

I have an IRiver IMP-350 MP3 player but nothing but what they gave me in the box. I also have no headphone amp and no money or know how to build one so the low impedence on those would be great. I haven't ventured really ever into headphones but am very interested after lurking in these boards for about a week. I'm also very interested to see the quality and sound of Audio Technica's as I have been unable to locate a dealer in the Seattle area to evaluate them. I became an audiophile when listening to music out of my fathers Naim system. And now whenever I listen out of my crap earphones I feel depressed and even angry that my music has been warped by these low-end phones. Also if I win I will encase my current earphones in dog crap or douse them with gasoline and give them a dishonorable death

. Also, I've had horrible luck with my audio equipment lately. My Marantz amp (gotten from Goodwill) broke and now the balance on my speakers is beyond repair.

Hi:
Pick me please? Pretty please? Pretty please with a cherry on top? If you give them to me, I promise I'll amuse myself for hours on end looking at myself in the mirror with them on (Thank GOD I don't have a digital camera)! On top of that, I suppose it would give me a taste of the "Audio-Technica sound"? I plan to beg my dad or my friend's dad to try and get a pair of decent ATs from either Taiwan or HK. On that topic, does anyone know is Taiwan or HK cheaper for ATs?

EDIT: Hey, since Vagical brought the birthday thing up, it was my 18th birthday on 12/31! And speaking of Muppets, the current most listened track on my computer right now is... THE MUPPET SHOW THEME!!!

So please, Purple Monster-sama, grace my miserable, amp-less existence with your glorious cans *ahem*! My Koss PortaPros look so awfully lonely by themselves on my desk.. if you send me the ATs, I promise I'll help them make friends with each other! Maybe they'll get married or something and spawn cute little translucent PortaPros...

1) well, i've recently completed my first cmoy amp (huzzah!), after much not-so-muffled cursing that'd give a rowdy sailor and all his little sailor-buddies a run for their money. my problem is that, in the cmoy-testing-pleasepleaseplease-work process, i managed to explode (NB: the term 'explode' has been used rather loosely...) my dodgy sony street-style 'phones of tinitis-inducing death (ok, so the tinitis will probably surface as a result of how loud i *choose* to listen to my metal
tongue.gif
).

i'm sure other's will have noticed that, when running a portable MD thru an amp, it's impossible to turn off, or control the volume of, the beeping sound that goes off when you use the remote - and so it chimes VERY LOUDLY. obviously, i didn't know this to begin with, and in my idiocy, i tend to forget this whenever i'm using my amp. i have since discovered that LOUD BEEPING => OUCHY SNAP-CRACKLE-POP-PHONES!

2) i'm a noobie chick - i like the blue
smily_headphones1.gif
. heck, i'd even go so far as to say that, were i a man, i would happily emasculate myself in any way that you would deem satisfactory, in the hopes of scoring free blue 'phones! i would personally suggest emasculator rings, as commonly used on sheep and other livestock, for an extra lengthy and painy removal process (ah the benefits of an education in animal husbandry).

3) i didn't think i should pull this card, but really, when it comes to freebies, i think it's no-holds-barred. it's a cheap pop, and i'm fully aware of this, but...IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY! today marks the end of 19 years of stumbling across this earth, and i expect many more years of consumer-driven poverty to come (especially since i found this place...)

in closing, to quote an old mitsubishi ad : PUREEJU CONSHIDA

Because I've always wanted a pair of headphones that I can use as a baseball, a back-scratcher, a fake earring, an egg, a hat, a giant piece of golden chocolate, a one-in-a-million earpiece for a phone that doesn't exist, and a ball of wax.

Most of all, though, I want these headphones to listen to the Muppets sing All Together Now (a Beatle's cover)

...and I'm spent.

aha! i DO have a digital camera! given the chance, i hereby declare that i will post photos of myself wearing these snow-cone-phones ON EVERY MAJOR BODILY APENDAGE. praise god, allah, buddha - any or all of them - that i am of the female persuasion, and so will not experience any horrible pinching incidents ala 'there's something about mary'!

although, if for some reason you have strange perversions as such, i will do my best to make it happen! NO ONE IS SAFE. i shall name it Pinchy, and it shall be the scourge of all it surveys!!
