I like to think positive.
Maybe Creative will licence this technology since they need a killer feature in order to convince millions of gamers to invest in a new soundcard (and the required accessories like headphones and motion trackers).
A buy out could prove impossible since those university guys have well payed jobs already, they don't need the fast buck, but the exclusive right to use it for gaming purposes is very likely.
Creative will insist on it, otherwise no deal.
At this stage a few avant-garde artists will jump in, fiddling around with this new technology for non gaming purposes like they do today with consumer graphic cards.
Creative will add this feature to their EMU pro line of soundcards since hardware and software are already there.
Microsoft definitely needs this "total reality audio" for their Xbox 3 or they are out of business soon.Add another few million gamers.
Sony, Senn and Ety will deliver after market quality gear, the market is huge enough.
For a new format it's all about momentum.
Now we have millions of young users, exactly the target group the music industry is traditionally aiming at.
Time for recording engineers to adopt this technology.
Since computer guys are much faster than those snaillike hifi companies all this could happen within our lifetime, maybe 6 years from now on.
Just another alternative reality.
