Seems we have not furniture thread, and no-one ever looks in the accessories area...so lets give this a collective head-fier thought!
I need a rack for DAC/Amp to put on my desk. I do not have much gear so a 5 shelf or such floor-standers is highly impractical (I don't have the floor-space either). I need a 2 shelf, preferably with about 5 inches between the shelves, so on the bottom is the source, in the middle I can put the amp/PSU, on top I can put my computer screen (secondary, I use 2). Where can I get one without breaking the bank?! (Only solution I found was an 'audiophile rack' made out of aluminum and silver, cosing ~$500).

How many of you generally go with dedicated stands for head-fi? (Save desk-space anyone?)

In a 3000-man college town that has nothing but bankers, doctors, lawyers, and restaurant investors (and 30000 students), good luck to me. Otherwise I'd be done with that already. I am looking for options I can buy online at this point. =] (Maybe I should go to my parent's house and get down and dirty with some tools...lets explore the buying options first).

you should be able to build your own for very little money.
the only tools you need are:
hand saw
hammer
measuring tape
sandpaper
router(if you want beveled edges)

Woodworking is fairly easy to do yourself.

I bought the tools to build my own stuff from now on. My HT rack would have cost me more than the tools and materials that I purchased.

Gimme some dimensions, and I'll try and help you find something to buy.

Ya, I'll +1 that, I have experience with woodworking (did alot of stuff for the middle school I went to, including fixing like every single chair in the auditorium, for grades and getting to have my way with old tech that was being replaced). To do anything nice looking, need a barrage of tools and time. I would do it, but the reason I prefer to buy is lack of time. I am in college, with a job, need to spend time looking for an internship, and a whole bunch of junk...lets not go into details. Money is not a problem, I just don't want to spend more than $100 because that money could just go into head-fi upgrades

.

Anyways, thanks for the help offer =] I am generally looking for something around 1' squared footprint, max of 10 inches high, 1 shelf midway and one on the top. I've been looking through the major retailers (read Officemax and such) for a while now >.< It would rock if it is glass/metal construction.

By the way, very impressive stuff in your gallery.

Not having much luck.

How about one made of MDF ans dowel rod risers? These items can be purchased for Lowes and they can cut it to size when you buy it. Then only minimal tools/time would be needed to assemble/finish the product.

OO, those last 2 are right on the money, looking through them right now. I also just stumbled into a Lovan amplification stand that fits the objective, but I have trouble finding it at the desired price. Let me look through those Monitor Acrylic stands, they look very neat.
