So my house got burglarized today, and the &%&%& thieves took, among other things, my Viewsonic wireless LCD system, which I used to control my Audio PC from about 12 feet away.

Right now I can't access my Audio PC sitting in front of me. Viewsonic wireless system is too expensive for me to replace, so I'm thinking of a cheaper "wired" solution. I don't need a big monitor, maybe 12-15", but can you guys suggest monitor/keyboard/mouse solution that can be wired to my PC 12 feet away?

I would consider a Logitech Di Novo bluetooth keyboard and mouse (probably the original one with the media pad) I have used one since they were released and they have been great - can even control music from half way down the street (yes... comes in handy all the time... I know... I was just curious one day...)

Buy a cheap monitor off newegg if you don't care about quality and run a 15 foot vga cable or something across the floor to your pc and plug it in a nearby wall and then just get a wireless keyboard is my vote.

Some wireless keyboards have a much shorter range than others..

12' is no problem for dvi. And if you have one cable you may as well add a little usb cable for mouse and keyboard and anything else you care to use where you sit. My monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. are 18' away from the PC and this is what I do. Maybe change to displayport at some point as the cable will be thinner than dvi.

OK. I've decided go with long DVI and USB cables.

Looks like nobody sells small 15" LCD separately and cheaply anymore, though..

Anyway, how do you set up a laptop to be used as "remote" to your main PC? Both use Windows XP (Pro on PC, Home on Laptop). When I had Viewsonic Airpanel wireless LCD, I had disabled my soundcard from Control Panel/Devices to "reduce RFI/EMI," and I'm wondering if I'll just get a blank screen when I hook up a monitor to my PC via DVI now ?

If you have Pro on the one you want to run head-less, you're home free!

Remote Desktop

Do a search and go to the MS site...ts a snap to use, but you gotta have Pro on the machine you want to control remotely.

X2. I personally use Ultra VNC; it has all the features I could ever ask for.

That's a speaker rig!! I do move the chair for headphone listening.

All extension cables ordered. Just looking for cheap, good LCD monitor (15"?), small keyboard, and mouse...
