Been experimenting with pairing the lokahi with my ifi micro bl and LP w2. I found that using anything other than the generic apple dongle makes me enjoy the lokahi less lol. Not sure if its just me.

It's common issue with Chinese brand BA drivers. I had the same issue with my KZ all BA iem before. Basically the drivers are not quite capable of perfoming under high power output, they create more distortion and the sound becomes thin and shouty.
Don't seems to follow. Is amp a bad thing for lokahi? I have only hip dac to drive lokahi and seems ok. Based on what you say, going without amp is better? I did try it direct from my R3 DAP with Saber chip, i prefer the Hip Dac + DAP better over just DAP alone. Will using a phone with dongle be better??

Will the iFi IEMatch+ solve all IEM issues like this, and slight hums & hiss? Or does a product like that also change and/or degrade the sound? I pick up slight electrical background noise on my Mojo, so I wonder if IEMatch+ or similar(impedance cable?) will solve that?
It might but I really do not like altering the impedance load of devices. It's odd because I have a bunch of not-that-high end devices and have zero electrical noise.. but maybe the Lokahi is unique in that respect.

I was comparing my Voyager 3 to the lokahi the other day. The bass on the voyager is a big step up over the lokahi. Better extension, and real rumble. Sounds like a DD somehow. The lokahi has better (clearere/ more natural) tuning in the upper mids though. The voyager is more fatiguing in that range, while the lokahi is a bit more fatiguing above 8k. Both benefit from some EQ.
I haven’t been listening to my Lokahi/Storm much, as the crappy nozzle does not seem to provide a good fit. I do have some big boys like the Layla FMJ and Zeus XR for comparison though, might get into that soon.
How do you feel about IEM vs headphone performance at prices like this? If you use headphones, that is.
So far, IEMs up to Tri Starlight 4 haven't wow'd me a whole lot. S4 does have some amazing qualities, but also is too hot in the treble and the bass isn't all that spectacular. If Oracle doesn't do it for me, I'm not sure if I should try MEST or go back to the headphone realm(Arya?).
