Forgive me if this has been raised elsewhere - I've never seen anything about it.

I have a range of 5 different iPods ATM, which all have the same 'problem'.

I have noticed than when I turn an iPod off, it doesn't seem to actually turn off in some cases. If have a paid of headphones connected to the headphone out, I can still hear a slight hiss if I turn the iPod off, then lock it. It is the same slight hiss that you can hear when the iPod is on with no music playing, and is easier (for me) to notice with IEMs.

I have played around a bit with this and also noticed that if I turn off the iPod and the almost immediately switch to the lock position, it is dead quiet with no hiss (the same as if you just turn it off without locking).

Seem (to me) to be more noticeable with full size iPods (I have a 4gen photo and a 5.5gen), but it also seems to happen with my Nano (current version).

Has anyone else noticed this with their iPod? If there is sound it must be draining the battery aswell!

Hey there poo, long time no see.

Yes, unless the iPod has not been touched for 24 hours, then it will stay in that state; it is not truly off, but rather in Sleep Mode, thus they can "wake up" in the blink of an eye for people to start using again.

Again though, if you leave your iPod alone for 24 hours, then it will go into a deep sleep, where only then it completely shuts off, and only a push on its clickwheel will wake it back up, and then it'll show the Apple logo, you'll hear/feel the hard drive inside wake up and spin to life, then wait about 15 seconds or so, then the iPod will be fully awake and ready to use.

If you want your iPod to be in a deep sleep every time you turn it off, check out Rockbox.

I'm super sleepy at the moment (gf is keeping me awake
