New to the forum but glad to have stumbled upon this community... Just want to seriously ask all the audio pros here one question.
Recently I converted a 10 mb dual channel mp3 file to wav format just testing if it's even possible. To my surprise however, I found that the output file in wav format is 640 mb in size and has 8 channels!!! I however doubt that there's any change as I could not make out any difference between the two. I know that hardware matters but I played these two files on a dsd and flac capable Sony device. So my QUESTION is this. IS THIS POSSIBLE or just some apps fooling me into believing the sound is UPGRADED🤔🤔

Of course it is.
All audio is PCM audio ( exept that niche product called DSD).
In fact if you play a MP3, AAC. FLAC, WAV, etc a decoder is invoked converting it to linear PCM.

has 8 channels
Sounds like a configuration error or simply bad software. MP3 is 2 channel almost all of the time

as I could not make out any difference between the two.
Most people can't
