Hey head-fi! long time no see.

here's the deal, i got myself a Stax SRS-007II System. I have my PC as the source but it is old and has a small hard drive so I need an efficient way to store all my music!! Right now I have about 6500 songs encoded in VBR V9 MP3 (average 65kbps). I'm not noticing a very big difference between that and the CD through the PC. I have heard good things about Ogg Vorbis too, how do they stack up in the 65kbps range?

If you want to make a change and you don't have lossless files backed up already somewhere else, then you're looking at ripping about 600 audio CDs again. Not worth it, in my opinion, unless you're going to invest in an additional hard drive to rip the CDs to a lossless format, and then batch convert them to something lossy in the system you describe.
