Hi all,
I needed a reasonably priced ADC, and I stumbled upon the AA 979T: https://www.audioauthority.com/product_details/979T
However, there was nothing in the way of specifications online nor could I find anyone who had experience with one.
So I took a gamble and here is my experience!
First off, this is what the company offers, which has very little in specifics:
Converts analog signals to digital audio
- Left/right analog audio input
- Digital coaxial and digital optical output
- Both digital outputs simultaneously operate
- Adjustable sampling rates (48 or 96kHz)
- U.S. designed and assembled
I opened it up and found out it uses the:
CIRRUS LOGIC CS5343 24bit/96khz ADC: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/cirrus-logic-inc/CS5343-CZZ/598-1189-ND/1245639
CIRRUS LOGIC CS8406 digital transmitter: https://www.cirrus.com/products/cs8406/
This is spec'd out at about 98db SNR.
As advertised, it supports 48/96khz only, selectable via jumper. I attached a photo of the internals.
I tested and the unit had no problem whatsoever sending 96khz audio via a 3m Tripp-Lite Optical cable. I know optical performance above 48khz is problematic with some units, but it works great in this device.
Overall I thought it sounded great and was fairly transparent, so I am happy with this purchase.
Cost of this on average is around $80-$90 shipped, so if you need an ADC and don't want to break the bank this is a good one to go for.
