I have audigy 2 zs as a source and hd-280pro for phones.
Accidentally I've noticed clear difference when playing some TV (line-in) source with CMSS(2) enabled 1) with speaker type set to 2/2.1 and 2) with speaker type set to Headphones. The TV source is mono and poor quality, so CMSS isn't a quality loss. The 2/2.1 sounded more realistic and gave better "soundstage" so I left it as my default.
I was not able to hear any difference between the two speaker setups with CMSS off (any other effects always off) using foobar2000.
My question is, whether this speaker type setting only makes sense for EAX and other effects or it changes the sound somehow even if all effects are off.
The documentation is lacking the relevant info as usual.
I also wonder what difference and consequences for the sound does the "sync with windows" switch make?
