My only gripe with a pre-order for a 'mass market' product like this is paying up front.
I know a lot more retailers are doing this, particularly in the current climate as it secures cash flow in the short term, but people talk about these headsets as though they're some kind of ethereal concept, not just A N Other consumer electronics device. When the company sets a date, you're not wrong as a customer to expect that to be fulfilled.
These are also an expensive/considered purchase given their use case, and whilst it's true that you get what you pay for because of Audezes quality, in addition to the fact that they're pretty free and easy about refunds and order management, paying a chunk like that up front but then experiencing these delays etc. and getting vague updates on when you can expect to receive your order that was originally advertised as x and is now not determined...put it this way, I learned from Penrose.
Once Maxwell is actually finished, launches and is able to be sent to me, then I'll consider putting money down, otherwise, it just has that whole Kickstarter funding vibe and it doesn't sit well with me.
It would have helped the wait considerably if there were some review/preview units out in the wild and we could get a feel for what to expect up front. I've loved my time with Penrose, so just knowing that Maxwell is an improvement on that would probably satisfy some.
Maybe
@Mad Lust Envy , conflict of interest or otherwise, could do us a mini-review in their normal expert fashion?
