Audeze - Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v74 and HQ v126 - Sep 2024)
Jan 30, 2023 at 12:36 AM Post #916 of 4,601
Go ahead, google. I googled and searched for all the info on the Maxwell as soon as I found out about them. EVERY tech site had the same boilerplate specs and info on the Maxwell, INCLUDING the late Dec shipping date. Check them all.
It's simple, you shouldn't have returned Penrose X and you should have calmly waited for the release with cool headphones, and not write tons of offended text on the forum.

Proshop just sent mail.
New expected delivery date: 10-03-2023 (Xbox)

Question:
I just bought a Yeti X mic.. First mic I ever bought, normally I just use the headset mic.
Should I still be buying the Maxwell? Or is there a Planar headset without a mic that would be better? I do play lots of games, but I also enjoy having sound for listening to music. I'm looking for something in the similar price range.
I mean there are other Bluetooth headsets, but the Audeze should have a strong sonic quality and be very unique. I mean you could try a senn 3/4, a bose 700, at around the same price or even the Penrose for pretty cheap. The Focal Bathys is also supposed be insane but are 800 retail vs 300. The Penrose made by the same company is the only thing I can think of, but the Maxwell is pretty much better in every way (Mic, build, look, battery life). If in doubt wait a few weeks. I'm just we'll see some reviews by Mid Jan and some people will get the headphones in their hands soon. Do you need noise cancelation?

thats why for the interim, i am using the nova pro wireless from steelseries. Definitely not audiophile grade by any means but its a convenient headset with decent sound. love the interchangeable swappable batteries so that i dont need to spend any time charging the headset. Money is not an issue in a way so whilst waiting for the maxwell, will be using it.

Most likely keep the nova pro wireless as a spare or when i feel the maxwell is too heavy/uncomfortable, and i swap to it.....or when the maxwell runs out of battery, just use the nova pros whilst charging the maxwell.

Yall really arguing about if it was late December or early January? Either way, Audeze sucks at giving us a reliable date so it doesn't really matter. Neither happened.

We're just gonna have to wait until they get their mess together. I knew I should have just bought the VZR Model One LMAO. I hope Sennheiser buys Audeze some day. The Audeze drivers with better execution would be incredible.

I already have the Mobius atm. And no I don't need noise cancelation. I guess I just take the Maxwell, extra mic could be nice to have if my yeti breaks. :p
I was just thinking if there was a version from Audeze without the mic. I was thinking saving some money on the mic and maybe get better sound instead for the same price.

My only gripe with a pre-order for a 'mass market' product like this is paying up front.

I know a lot more retailers are doing this, particularly in the current climate as it secures cash flow in the short term, but people talk about these headsets as though they're some kind of ethereal concept, not just A N Other consumer electronics device. When the company sets a date, you're not wrong as a customer to expect that to be fulfilled.

These are also an expensive/considered purchase given their use case, and whilst it's true that you get what you pay for because of Audezes quality, in addition to the fact that they're pretty free and easy about refunds and order management, paying a chunk like that up front but then experiencing these delays etc. and getting vague updates on when you can expect to receive your order that was originally advertised as x and is now not determined...put it this way, I learned from Penrose.

Once Maxwell is actually finished, launches and is able to be sent to me, then I'll consider putting money down, otherwise, it just has that whole Kickstarter funding vibe and it doesn't sit well with me.

It would have helped the wait considerably if there were some review/preview units out in the wild and we could get a feel for what to expect up front. I've loved my time with Penrose, so just knowing that Maxwell is an improvement on that would probably satisfy some.

Maybe @Mad Lust Envy , conflict of interest or otherwise, could do us a mini-review in their normal expert fashion? :p

Actually in America the announcements for this headset said shipping late December.
So true story, two weeks ago I was calling around to local Audeze dealers. I asked if he had the Maxwell in stock, he looked it up and said they had one in stock they sold over the weekend. After we hung up he called me back 5 minutes later and told me they were not supposed to do that, it was a pre order they were supposed to hold onto until February 2. Weird, and some lucky guy has a headset at home.

It's simple, you have no idea what you are talking about. I returned the Penrose X because of a new product announcement. That was the smart thing to do. I only responded to posts here finally after some people said just deal with it and Audeze did nothing wrong, it's not right to criticize a company. I couldn't take the misinformation anymore.

But as far as I know Audeze never set a date, unless one of their employees communicated something more definitive somewhere in this thread that I missed. Expected. Anticipated. These were all presented as estimates, not release dates. Estimates are estimates, not hard dates. I think they could have communicated the behind the scenes stuff like the state of the Microsoft certification more transparently early on, but I don't think anyone was lied too or even really misinformed by Audeze.

I think (at least the UK site) said 'Shipping Early Jan' so while there were no specific dates there was at least an expectation of date range and 'estimated' I don't recall being mentioned.

Guess we can all interpret this situation differently - would just be really good to know now what Audeze are working towards - appreciate they don't want to set a date that yet again gets missed but this has become really vague (UK site just says Q1 now), although admittedly it does say 'expected Q1' just to cover themselves should it slip to April and beyond. At this stage, based on a previously expected Jan release, that isn't terribly confidence inspiring :stuck_out_tongue:

Time will tell I guess.

This is now going round in circles guys they have told us what is happening best to either make peace with that and wait or if you can’t get a refund and shop elsewhere either is understandable. I’ve just found out it’s only android phones which the app is compatible with so if you have a tablet or android laptop it’s not compatible.

You might be right about the product page, I was thinking about their announcement here and most of the press announcements.

you can save the EQ setting you create from a PC to the headset though i think..
