This updates addresses some minor audio artifacts affecting some Maxwell units.

For PC, you can use either version. If you do not have an Xbox, I suggest going for the Playstation version for the cost save.

As for differences:

Mobius: Mobius is designed primarily for the needs of the high-end advanced PC gamer who wants 5.1/7.1 surround sound, head-tracking, and keyboard macros. However, if you want a wireless headset, the Maxwell is your answer.

Penrose: Maxwell is our next generation wireless gaming headset. It improves on Penrose in most aspects, as well as including the addition of USB wired audio, which Penrose does not have. I recommend you check on the Maxwell page for specifics. There's much more as well.

LCD-GX: this is still our high end, analog gaming headphone/headset, which is traditional in which it is wired, and works with anything with a headphone jack. It is also open backed which leads to a more open sound. This is for serious audiophiles that want the ultimate in audio quality first.

I’m extremely happy to see that the specs show this can do wired connection instead of only wireless like the Penrose. While I actually don’t have issues with the wireless dongle on the Penrose, I preferred using usb for the connection when I had the Mobius. I’ll have to try and grab a pair since I find myself using the Penrose a lot at work for calls and meetings.

@Audeze are the pads a more traditional circular shape than the oval pads from the Penrose/Mobius?

It is more traditional in size and shape. More akin to our LCD pads. Note that they are also detachable by pressing in and rotating clockwise to unlock. Then to place back on, you align with the openings, and rotate counter clockwise to lock in place.

Awesome! I'm definitely in the camp of "audiophile + gamer". I had LCD-X 2021 for a while and loved it! Just a bit heavy. Now I game on my Beyer DT1990 most of the time, but sometimes I use my ZMF headphones, which is obviously overkill for gaming.

How does the Maxwell stack up for imaging and soundstage? Those tend to be the most important for gaming. I see a lot of good info in the specs, so I suspect it holds its own, but just wondering. How is the sound quality to your LCD line? Still got that deep bass shelf in the Maxwell??

Any return policy on preorders? Or would I have to wait for launch?

Last question, any reviews/impressions coming out before launch? I like to get some ideas before a purchase.

i hope these have better quality joints between the earcups and headband. love the mobius but the cracks that very frequently happen at that joint suggests some kind of design issue.

Both versions work on PC. However, if you have an Xbox and PC, the Xbox version is the one you should get.

Sound impressions is better left for reviewers and owners. Of course we'd like to say it's great in all those aspects, but we recommend you wait on impressions to get a better idea on expectations of sound.

You should expect Maxwell to sound like an Audeze product, with sound quality befitting our class leading planarmagnetic design. That includes the deep, linear, extended bass.

Maxwell will work with existing Dolby Atmos licenses. So if you have it enabled on PC, you can continue using it for Maxwell as well.

We anticipate Maxwell to be everywhere (except China) in late February, however it is up to our distributors to place orders with us, meaning some of them may receive inventory before others.

Why is the Xbox version more?

The difference in cost is due to the proprietary Microsoft chip, Microsoft licensing costs, and Dolby Atmos license. It is also the more 'universal' of the two, though we still recommend the PS version for Playstation due to tweaks made in the PS dongle mode to utilize the hardware more eficiently (tuning, volume output, lower potential distortion on the PS console mode).

PS5 usb volume output can be low if an audio device isn't targeted to the system. This can lead to higher noise due to pushing devices harder, etc.
