Audeze - Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (alert: Stolen Maxwell Headphones)
Jan 30, 2023 at 2:47 PM Post #946 of 4,611
All that said, I want this to end on a positive note, I am really excited for Maxwell, I accept that it will 'be ready when it's ready' and I don't begrudge Audeze for wanting to put out a complete product compared to how some other shyster companies put out broken tat and expect the customers to wait for fixes, but I would certainly appreciate a bit more hype up material to tide me over.

Here's some Preset news to tide you guys over.

Now guys, this is all I can share for now.

Instead of refreshing the old Presets found on the Mobius, we have a new line of presets I think you guys will find interesting and usable. Even a non-EQ snob like me (I typically never touch EQ) may be surprised by how good these are.

1. Audeze - Our intended default target for Maxwell
2. Treble Boost - Make no mistake, this is NOT just a treble boost, and firmly believe you guys will want to really pay attention to this one.
3. Bass Boost - self explanatory, and like treble boost is not JUST a bass bump. This is one is the warmer/smoother/richer, more body preset. If you like a softer treble, this one is for you.
4. Immersive - This one is my personal favorite non-default preset, and plays well for casual/action/atmospheric games, IMHO. Think single player games where competitive focus is not the priority. It shares aspects of both bass and treble boost presets, with its own flavor.
5. Competition - This is the high detail preset focused on enhanced clarity of mid to treble ranges, for added air, and focus on where most details lie. If you know me from my headphone guide and which kind of sound I would rate highly for competitive play, you should have an idea.
6. Footsteps - This is a more focused/targeted response based on gameplay audio analysis.
7, 8, 9, 10 - Your own custom presets.

These sound great and can’t wait to try them. Are you able to say how the surround sound effect compares to the Penrose? It was the one area it lost out to some other headsets

Fantastic! Has there been any progress with the PS units?

A firmware isn't final, so i think it didn't submit yet. When they finished GM firmware and send final sample of headset to Microsoft Envy will write about it here. Keep calm.
They are certifying the headset itself from what I understand. The firmware will be worked on separately.

Any and ALL shipping updates will be on the FAQ page first. I understand you guys are anxious, but again: ANY and ALL updates will be on the FAQ page FIRST.

This means, please check the FAQ page for shipping updates. If there's no updates there, there's no updates.

As for Preset switching, not sure if it was on this thread, but we had mentioned that changing presets on the headset is by double pressing the volume wheel inwards which puts you in EQ selection (you'll hear the "EQ" prompt), and you have a few seconds to adjust the wheel up/down for EQ presets. As long as you're adjusting it, it will not default back to volume, but after a few (5 or so seconds) of not adjusting anything, you'll hear a beep which means it's reverted to the default action of volume control.

It's very intuitive.

Controls:

Power button:

Hold: Power on/off
Press: Play/pause
Double press: BT pairing
Triple press: Dongle pairing

Top wheel:

Up/Down: Volume adjust
Press In then up/down: Previous/next (i.e. like on Youtube, you'll go back to previous video or next video)
Double press: EQ, updown = EQ presewt selection

Bottom Wheel:

Up/Down: Game/Chat balance (Xbox and PC only)
Press then up/down: Sidetone Volume
Double press: quick ON/OFF sidetone toggle

MFB button (next to ports)

Press: AI Noise Suppression (for your microphone): Low, Med, High

As mentioned beofre, the microphones have automatic gain control, so we do not have volume control for the mics on the unit. You can tweak past this with programs like PS5 internal volume control, discord, etc.

Question in regards to the controls. When you have identified which EQ you want, can you single/double-press the volume wheel again to confirm? Or do you have to passively wait for it to time out in order to persist your selection?

You're on the EQ selection by double pressing the volume wheel. Then as you adjust up/down, you're changing between the EQ presets, each with voice prompts letting you know which one you're on.

So if you land on Immersive, stop adjusting, and you'll be on that preset.

I know you're saying this is all you can share, but if you all want to drop some screenshots of the EQs that would be amazing. I'd personally be interested in what frequencies the footsteps EQ focuses as footsteps will be very game specific (i.e. MW2 footsteps are on a different frequency than it was on COD Cold War ).

That's internal. We cannot share this info. I understand various game footsteps will all be there. In this case, choose which preset best fits what you hear. I would bank on either competition or footsteps both being good starting points. We can't account for every game out there, unfortunately. That's what custom EQ presets are for. If someone can make specialized custom presets, they're more than free to share them with the public.

Let me rephrase—once I have identified my desired preset, how do I leave that menu so that I may use the wheel to adjust my volume level again?

If you stop adjusting for a few seconds, it will go back to the default wheel action which is volume control. You'll hear a subtle beep anytime you stop adjusting any function that isn't the default volume wheel (top) or game/chat mix (bottom). You get 5 seconds or so to begin adjusting shortcut functions like EQ. As you're adjusting, the timer isn't going down. So say you adjust EQ, then stop for 3 seconds then adjust again, you have 5 seconds again. It's AFTER the 5 seconds of NOT adjusting anything that you'll hear the default action beep.

Understood, I wanted confirmation that there is no explicit action that the user can take to return to the previous menu. It is done for you passively after an idle time.

So when the headset comes out, our options will be Audeze presets that we have 0 visibility into or we have to make our own from scratch? Is there no way to make a copy of the Audeze presets and tweak them?
