AUDEZE LCD XC

It's been almost a year with this set up and I have to say I'm still as content as I was day one. Well, actually more content- I had a bit of an ear issue, and a dirty power issue, both which caused an initial poor experience- but I have to say that I confidently feel as if this is my high fidelity nirvana. I dont see myself moving on for a long long time.

Although I'll be honest, I use a very slight classic v in the EQ in foobar. Oh well.

Besides, this gives me a chance to build up my office rig.

This morning I did a comparison between LCD-XC and HD800 playing baroque music.

I can still remember what harpsichord sounds like in live performances and I don't think my HD800 has got the tones correctly. I know the Xs sound more natural or slightly colored than HD800s, but in my system the Xs are more "accurate" about the tones as well.

There's also an amp issue with the HD800...they don't pair well with some amps.  Check out David Mahler's "Battle of the Flagships" alpha post on this site - Dave is a big fan of the HD800 but also writes they are very dependent on the amp used.

From my experience, the HD800 don't pair very well with the Mjolnir - too bright - but they pair very well with Sennheiser's HDVA600 amp.

I am sure there are other amp options for the HD800, I'm just not familiar with them.  I know one other head-fier who's using the Ray Samuels Dark Star, but that's an expensive option.

Good luck -

I just rechecked my LCD-XC's FR graph and I realized its peak around 5kHz to be higher than average Audezes'.
I think this explains why I occasionally find my XC sounds either dusky or sibilant with some tracks.

Can anyone imagine using these for portable use?

Looks like your roller coaster is more 'fun' than mine!

:frowning2: Well, I suppose my XC will sound much warmer than yours.

Yeah, that's the one thing I'm missing out on my pair. Not the same as I auditioned.

If anyone has owned LCD-2 before, what is the key area that XC is better at, beyond isolation of course...?
Is the bass less/equal/better in depth/tactility ?

Ultimate gym headphones, double your gains - and enjoy hi fidelity music all at the same time. Might want to mind the smell though.

Currently own both. The LCD-2 has more quantity and the XC has more quality/texture. I peg the difference to be from the speed of the XC driver which has better decay and detail in bass notes. The LCD-2 sounds slower in comparison. To me it's worth twice the price.
