I have been using my lcdx with an Apex Arete last few months and I really like the combo. Its very transparent and detailed. Definitely a step up from the Jotunheim. If you can get your hands on any of the Apex offerings I definitely recommend them as they seem to match pretty well with planars.

I have a Geek Pulse Infinity Balanced and I was thinking of the Massdrop LC-X
Is this a good combo since the balanced can be had for cheaps.

I would like it to give me good bass slam while toning down the highs a little bit.
Or is there any amp that you guys all agree in unison that it's the defacto standard.
( i.e HD6xx with Crack )

Thanks

Have you tried equalizing? May be easier than trying to find an amp that colors the sound just the right amount.
It's free and much more versatile depending on the mood.

I'm interested in the LCX though.

About the Roon DSP presets, I found it to hide a little bit of the most subtle details, but more importantly, I felt that it was removing a lot of the visceral impact* of the instruments, and so I prefer it "pure"...

*For visceral impact I am using the definition from the Ultimate Demonstration Disk from Chesky...

Has anybody found a clever modification to the carbon fiber headband to keep my head from contacting the hard part of the headband?

I tried asking Audeze customer service and they told me to look here. Thanks for the help at least they replied. I tried a few searches but nothing came up.

I thought the carbon fiber headbands were redesigned to prevent this sort of thing. It is definitely bruising the top of my head just like a stock LCD-3 headband.

I read somewhere that Audeze advised cutting a bit off each end then reattaching it to make it tighter I haven't tried yet but might have to

My LCD-X driven balanced by the Audio GD HE-9 with Roon plus the LCD-X preset has never sounded better.
For all audeze user out there i highly recommend to give it a try.

How do you like the HE9? I'm considering upgrading to HE9/Master 9 from my NFB10.

previously i had the master 9 then i sold it and i've bought the he-9.The combo is a killer combo.
For me the HE-9 is one the best solid state balanced headphones amplifiers you can buy and the match with the LCD-X is fantastic.
If you have a high quality balanced Dac you will enjoy a lot both the lcd-x and the he-9

Carbon fiber only here, much better confort (even with the leather touching the headband).

I am sure it will sound fine. Remember though power is not everything. I have used Jotunheim in balanced mode and to be honest it didn't really sound as detailed or layered some other less powerful and single ended amps out there. YMMV

I tried the Jot too, that's why I decided to go cheaper. Which amps did you like with the Xs?
