I would say the Cipher cable lets you EQ the i4’s. Without EQ the i4’s sound flat to my ears no matter how good the source is. I didn’t like my set much without EQ, even out of the Hugo 2.Hey guys, I purchased a chord Hugo 2, based on so many recommendations telling me it is the 'golden pair' with the lcdi4. I'm truly disappointed by the sound quality. It is barely an improvement over the cypher. I just don't understand it. Is it a problem of cable, setting? expectations? I had a questyle QP2R before, and the sound and scene were mindblowing, I hoped the hugo would be even better. Alas...

I put the audeze EQ on roon, so that's not the issue. It doesn't sound as rich, as vast, as I'd expect. Like I said, barely an improvement on the cypher. I'm considering selling the hugo 2 if I can't solve thatI would say the Cipher cable lets you EQ the i4’s. Without EQ the i4’s sound flat to my ears no matter how good the source is. Gotcha, the Hugo 2 is not a rich sounding DAC/Amp. It’s fairly neutral, a detail monster, resolving and true to the source or transparent. It won’t color the sound. So if you want a rich, musical sound the Hugo 2 is not that.I put the audeze EQ on roon, so that's not the issue. It doesn't sound as rich, as vast, as I'd expect. I believe there are two versions of the Cipher cable, and I could be wrong but I also think I read that the roon presets are different than either of them. Hopefully someone can correct me if I am wrong.I put the audeze EQ on roon, so that's not the issue. It doesn't sound as rich, as vast, as I'd expect.
In my experience, the iSines and i4s both benefit from a fairly elaborate EQ, more than what is provided by Audezes presets. I can post some parametric settings if you'd like to try them in roon.
As for the Hugo 2 itself, I haven't heard it with i4s. But I fall into the camp that generally finds finds the differences between DACs and amps to be pretty insignificant. So I say trust your ears on that one!

the hugo 2 is a great combo with the i4 IMHO but the chord sound is not rich and lush so if that is what you seek look elsewhere
Yes please publish the EQ settings for the i4

Sure thing! I can post some tonight.Yes please publish the EQ settings for the i4
A friend of my currently is borrowing my i4s, but this is the EQ I'm currently using with my iSines which sound very similar. (I also have about 100 other settings I've saved over the years, as I'm always coming up with new settings whenever I'm bored.) Let me know how it works with your i4s! I don't have Roon to test it, but I believe they have the option to add parametric EQ settings. Make sure you add -6db pre-gain.

Overkill for sure, but the sound is just incredible, it can definitely take on the big boys. Roon Audeze i4 preset, wet setting at 80%.

Quick note - I posted a system wide EQ app in the Fiio M11+ LTD thread:
Wavelet
Some of you may already know this app but if you and Android 10 DAP, you can run it without rooting. I also attached my custom eq file in the thread if you want to try. Would have loved PEQ, but the custom import has tons of bands so can get pretty close.
Edit - updated the eq in the link above. Initial file was not setup correctly.

Hey guys, I've been trying to look for the Lcdi4 but it's unavailable everywhere. Has Audeze discontinued them? One of the dealers said they're "at the end of their life" ??
