I agree about the sensitivity to mastering volumes....with the LCD-4 if you are listening to a recording that is not boosted volume wise you will find yourself really needing to push your amp..this aint the LCD-3 folks!
I'm with you. I have the same EQ software as Tyll used in his review (DMGAudio EQuilibrium) and plugged in the same values. After listening for a few days I determined that the 10k cut was undesirable. The bass boost wasn't really needed either since my LCD-4 curve shows it already has a slight boost down there. I found the bump at 5.6k was also unnecessary although enjoyable in certain cases. It added some sibilance on Jane Monheit's Home and so brought her a bit closer. It does bring up cymbals a bit, but that can be fatiguing after a while so I prefer the LCD-4 without a boost. I can understand how a person accustomed to the HD 800 (S) might prefer a bit more energy there.
Damn...listening to Phil Collins' "Face Value" remastered with the LCD-4s and they are just awesome! Punchy, dynamic and detail extraction is right up there with the very best (if not better).
I'm using my GS-X MK2 to drive them and the drivers are lovin' it!

Tidal is uncompressed....CD quality (not like Spotify or Apple streaming) and pretty darn close to my 192/24 or DSD recordings too. In the Air Tonight is one brilliant song!

For anyone who concern about the wood and wanna give it some great maintainance, here is the wooden wax that I used to apply on my LCD4 and my old LCD3. It smells darn good too!!
Sent back my stock LCD3 XLR cable couple days ago, now I can only use the bluse SE cable until the DHC Silver Complement 4 XLR arrives... Surprise thing is the sound actually not bad at SE output. I can't wait to try the balanced cable from DHC......

Oops, I meant the track is musically uncompressed, not as in mp3-type file compression. The 192/24 HDTracks version of In The Air Tonight is DR14, where on the 2015 Deluxe CD release this song is dynamically compressed to DR10. Often this happens in mastering, yielding the loudness wars.
I have burned-in my LCD-4's for a good 2 weeks now and I am bowled-over by them...I absolutely LOVE them! As I like to say, they are the headphones that I have been waiting for almost my whole life....a sound sort of like all the beautiful liquidity of tubes yet with all the detail of solid-state. Amazing!
A question for all LCD-4 owners:
I have noticed an "anomaly" or sorts recently that does not seem to affect the sound at all but when I either put them on or take them off or press on the right and left drivers---I hear a low-level "crinkling" sound (of the diaphragm?) a lot more pronounced in the right ear than the left. I know that the Aperodic Ear Pad Damping Ring is supposed to help with this since the driver is so thin, and I do not hear this in my LCD-X's. Has anyone else noticed this?
Audeze Tech Support has been very helpful in offering to inspect them, but before I send them in I was wondering if anyone else has come across this....or am I just being to sensitive? In other words, is this normal and not to worry about possible future diaphragm damage?
That crinkling noise is what I originally sent my LCD-X in for repair. Audeze finally got me my LCD-X back today. It seems a lot of their issues are down to poor communication between departments. How could my headphones have been shipped out already and customer service telling me that they hadn't and dont have a tracking number yet? The headphones sound fine now though as they have been replaced completely.

This is the same company that provide Audeze with their leather conditioner - Audeze just change the packaging a bit. Does a great job and smells amazing.
Head-Fi may be temporarily unavailable on Wednesday, April 17, 2023, for roughly 45 minutes for system maintenance and updates. This maintenance window will begin roughly around 11:15 PM ET. Thank you for understanding.
