Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread

Man, it's so hard to pick an amp for these headphones. I've been losing it reading this thread and other information out there trying to find one in my price range. I'm ultimately going to get the Taurus MKII some day maybe next year. Until then I'm looking for something in the 500 dollar range. There's a Mjolnir Version 1 (the solid state version) on reverb for 500 after shipping. He's accepting offers and I might get it if he'll go for 450.

Is there something else I should be considering in that price range? I can go over let say to 800 USD if it, in the end matters.

The source in my chain is my computer going through USB audio into a Schiit Bifrost V1. This is the version that has RCA only. It also has the multibit upgrade card installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sparko Aries is awesome. But expensive. The cheapest burson in the range should be great but i dont know the price. But buy the cheapest one and then upgrade the op amps later could be an option.

My 30yo old school marantz PM 80 runs my LCD xc, LCD3. And LCD4 really well through the headphone stage. Its 20 wpc class as an integrated 100wpc as class AB. could be worth trolling 2nd hand shops

congrats on your new great headphones

Try something like this if you can find it https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Marantz...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

20 watts class A that's into speakers, 100 class AB. Awesome headphone stage, can't remember the specs. It does a good job with my LCD4s. LCD3s a piece of cake. I'm going to compare my marantz CD 80/PM80 with my Sparko Aries and Burson conductor 3x when I get the chance.

I just ended up buying the OPPO ha1 dac/amp. There was a used one on audiogon. I decided on it because of it's versatility. I can plug in my iphone to the USB a port on the front, I can hook it up to my computer, I can do some EQing, I can use my sony wh100xm3's through bluetooth and I can sell my bifrost. The only thing it doesn't have is a phono stage. I have a terrible yamaha preamp that I can run though it until I find something else.

Cross my fingers that I didn't get scammed.

How would the treble compare in these vs the LCD-2? I've only tracked down one frequency response chart (in this thread) and it seems like the LCD-3 is much brighter?
FWIW, I went from LCD 2.2 to LCD-3F and was "underwhelmed" because the LCD-3F just sounded like the 2.2, just without any grain (which I felt was an issue on the 2.2). This was a long time ago, however. Crinacle.com should have FR charts for both.

Is there a way to modify the lcd3 headband that would allow the earcups to rotate more. Rotate in the sense that the earcups would lay flat on the table in a resting position like in the attached image.

Edit: also, i am loving these headphones. I half expected them to just be “fine” compared to me he560’s. They are amazingly perfect for what i listen to. They are great as is for classical and with a little bump to the bass they are superb for rock. The soundstage is huge and and for rock that needs to sound big, it creates that wall of sound that w completely encompasses me. I’ve never been more pleased with a set of headphones.

The LCD3 is not too bright, it has a fantastic midrange

Is there any sonic differences between Brown pad Fazor and black pad Fazor? I remember reading something about a 2018 revision on the LCD-3.
Btw, I am looking for some LCD-3 to buy, if anyone is interested in selling theirs...
