Audeze LCD-2C Classic - Impressions Thread

How is the 400i's single output vs the balanced one with the 2C?
I find the balanced input to be just slightly more dynamic and clearer.
I assume the Lcd2c benefits from the additional power going through the balanced input of the CMA400i vs single ended.

Hi,
Anyone who also own HD650s or HD6xxs confirm if LCD2Cs are worth an upgrade?
I will receive the HD6xx this week, so then I will be able to compare!

I think so. They share a similar tonality. LCD-2C has that low-end that I crave for. Where LCD-2C has more sub-bass, HD650 has more mid-bass punch that works better for some tracks. When EQ-ed, LCD-2C will completely obliterate HD650 in bass.

LCD-2C is also airier and has slightly deeper soundstage, where HD650 feels a bit stuffy. It also looks and feels like a million bucks to me.

However, HD650 has more present and weightier mid-range. Vocals shine more out of HD650 and music just sounds more cohesive from top to bottom. HD650 isn't going anywhere.

Initially I ordered the HD6XX to be run with my tube amp. But in the meantime I found the Lcd2c to pair very well with tubes.

I gotta admit, I find the hd650 and lcd-2 comparisons interesting. I have both as well (my lcd are now fazors, but we're originally 2.1), and from the moment I put on my LCD, I never used the 650 again. Maybe my hearing is unrefined, but I didn't feel the 650's did anything better than the 2's..

Still, no flaming for personal opinion.. and if the 650 does it, more power to you.

Are u playing your music off an iPad? If so can u fill me in on how you do that with a desktop amp or is it just a lightning to usb camera kit then plug your dac or amp into the wall

I want to move my setup to side of living room because I don’t like to listen in my office with my PC and would rather use my iPad while laying on the couch with my iPad. I don’t have a laptop anymore but thought about getting a cheap surface book that folds up like a laptop and has usb to take up less room and have my music on there. I don’t need an expensive surface book because off the music processing sources (dac and amp) will be external anyway

Thanks

I agree that the hd650 just dont compare in my opinion.

Let's not forget that that the HD6xx costs less than $200 vs $800 for the Lcd2c...

Now my questioning is how do they each react to OTL tube amplification.

That's not really a fair question. HD6XX is 300ohm, LCD-2 is 70ohm. I didn't like my LCD-2 at all out of an OTL, but the HD6XX opens up slightly with an OTL and scales up with better amps. It's easier to get much better sound from and LCD-2 with less expensive amps but to get better sound from an HD6XX you need - in my opinion - fairly costly amps that negate its price advantage somewhat. YMMV of course.

Yep, agreed. My point is that I was quite suprised to see how well the Lcd2c reacts to my questyle cma400i as a preamp + darkvoice 336se. Now waiting for the HD6xx to compare with the same setup (as high impedance headphones are supposed to do well with OTL tube amps).
If not satisfying, I guess I'll have to sell the HD6xx!
