Audeze LCD-2C Classic - Impressions Thread

Oh, you can't put a (co)pilot pad on the Audezes. The headstrap is a drilled out steel structure with some kind of suspension band.

The old style headband was something that maybe a pad could have changed. The new style suspension headband is totally different. I don't think it could hurt your head, the only question is probably whether the weight distribution works for you or not.
I saw a guy on Reddit who put the pad over the spring steel above the strap (very similar to Beyerdynamic headband design) and basically made it into one of the old-style headbands by removing the strap itself. I've seen others put it over the leather strap itself, but that's been mostly on Hifiman straps, so I'm not sure if the co-pilot is wide enough for the Audeze strap.

But yeah, I'm not too worried about comfort. I figure I'll find a way to make it work one way or another.

Redditors are right up there with audio scientologists as far as I am concerned. It is impossible to disagree and not become public enemy number one. I just ignore those sites, there is nothing but one train wreck after the other :D

I was not aware of any Beyer suspension design though.

Sorry, not a suspension design... My fault for not describing it better. By removing the suspension strap and putting a pilot pad on, it mimics the Beyerdynamic headband, which is spring steel wrapped in leather (plus wires).

Sorry again, I definitely wasn't trying to imply Beyerdynamic has a suspension strap. This is what it looks like with the pilot pad.

I also figure if it's okay to hang them by the spring steel to avoid stretching the suspension strap, then it shouldn't hurt to use the spring steel as the headband either.

Yeah but that is the old style Audeze headstrap. Those haven't been sold for years.

The person who did it said they just removed the strap from the LCD-2C and put the pilot pad on (using the new headband rather than the old). The LCD-2C model number is shown in the picture as well, which makes me think they did just remove the strap since these never came with the old-style band (as far as I can tell).

I guess it's possible that they replaced the entire headband with an old-style one, but I feel like that wouldn't have been worth their time to track one down.

So essentially they took the new band and made it into an old band using the pilot pad.

I have said that I find the HD 600 and LCD-2C similar but complimentary and I get skewered for that to the point I had to finally put some obnoxious slingers of personal attacks on ignore. I also find the DT1770 feels to me like a closed pair of HD 600s.

I haven't heard the DT1990s so I can't say. But I can say the LCD-2C doesn't have less treble, it is just warmer and more romantic. Smooth yet with slam. It is a superb all around pair of headphones at the price point with a good build and comfortable. They're easy to drive, unlike the Fostex based TR50/60rps. Imaging is something I haven't paid attention to (I don't game) but certainly there is no defect there or I would have heard it.

What kind of music do you listen to?
You sure have a defective hd600 with a bass boost, either that or defective ears.

I had an issue with the metal arc pressing against the strap, resulting in a painful hot spot. The metal arc can be raised by making so it's attached only by its lower two holes to the rods assembly (pictured). Resulting in ample space between the arc and strap. (EDIT: will also somewhat lower the clamp force)

Ok that's what I would expect given the venue. I have never seen any comment that the old style was more comfortable, quite the opposite.

Why you be so harsh homie?

P.S. That's what I meant about skewered

There is a new loki coming, like a proper large equalizer, with more bands. Loki is awesome of rthe price, but 4 bands not enough for this, maybe.

Not maybe, definitely as the guy after you has proven:

I am also using these now for about 2 months. I found the following EQ settings wich seem to work great for me.
Load these parameters in "Commands" in the middle text box (After the device selection of you EQ configuration) and make sure ur EQ is flat. After loading u wont see any result in the EQ bars, but it works.

The version i use with -10 on preamp in peace:
Filter: ON LSC 25 dB Fc 32 Hz Gain 4 dB
Filter: ON LSC 27 dB Fc 75 Hz Gain 6 dB
Filter: ON PK Fc 100 Hz Gain 4.5 dB Q 1.32
Filter: ON PK Fc 250 Hz Gain -0.6 dB Q 1
Filter: ON PK Fc 480 Hz Gain 2.6 dB Q 1
Filter: ON PK Fc 1250 Hz Gain -2 dB Q 2.5
Filter: ON PK Fc 2100 Hz Gain 2 dB Q 1.4

Filter: ON PK Fc 6500 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 6.65
Filter: ON PK Fc 7345 Hz Gain 3 dB Q 10
Filter: ON PK Fc 8000 Hz Gain -2 dB Q 7
Filter: ON PK Fc 10500 Hz Gain 3.5 dB Q 1.9

I got them today and wow... these things are HUGE. I've seen pictures, but for some reason, it didn't click with me just how big they were.

I absolutely love the sound so far. It has most of the things that made me love my 58x, but with better bass and amazing comfort. I'll have to comment more once the honeymoon period wears off.

I don't know exactly how the 58x and HD 600 compare, but I can definitely see the comparison to that series that @gimmeheadroom made.

I was trying the Audeze Reveal Plugin which is good, but the drum impact from the oratory1990 preset sold me on it. I love these EQs.
Indeed, I went even further and now using the ASR low shelf for even more kick and extension in the bass.
Preamp: -6 dB
Filter 1: ON LS Fc 40 Hz Gain 4.0 dB Q 1.0
Filter 2: ON LS Fc 75 Hz Gain 4.0 dB Q 1.0
