I feel the same about the HD800 myself, I would love to buy one and I'm only a month being able to buy one at most but not sure if it would be any good off the Soloist or WA7. Really don't want to think about upgrading the whole chain in this case yet.

I hear it's actually good with the Soloist. In my mind the cheapest "good enough" option for the HD800 might be the Soloist SL.

I hear the Matrix M-stage is another cheap option but it sacrifices a lot of resolution.

There are so many things that seem to work against the HD800. Do they really need a super DAC and a mega expensive amplifier? And are they really so bad with every musical genre other than jazz, acoustic and classical? They don't sound like headphones for your average music enthusiast. They sound more like headphones for people who attend dinner parties and go to see symphony orchestras.

with WA2, they work with just about everything, and i use them for everything.

if they only where good for jazz acoustic and classical, i wouldn't have them, they'd be sold a long time ago.

ouch, poor live recording,  i won't even try to re-route my sound from my speakers to my dac.

anyways, umm i don't think thats a problem.

been listening to avenged sevenfold and sum 41 and a lot of other stuff, and none of it sounds bright or bad on the HD 800. sure other headphones present it better, but it isn't like unlistenable or anything.

im not sure tbh, haven't paid attention, plus i still listen to their older stuff i grew up listening to, like early 2000s. (Half Hour of Power, Chuck, All Killer No Filler, Does this Look infected?)

The WA7 and the HD800 are a really nice pairing.  It's definitely good but not end game like the GSX or other TOTL unobtanium (for me at least) amps. I'm really happy with my setup. It may be my end game... at least for a while...
