Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

They look so gorgeous. Still one of the best looking hps in 2021. Sound is also good to my taste. I think a 2021 LCD2f would be my escape headphone if I had to sell everything and stick with one headphone that performs well relative to budget.
Any impressions with the new 2021 earpads?
Oh can’t wait now. I was tempted to get the ZMF atticus but that bass on the LCD is just majestic especially the 2. I remember almost a decade ago when I was first looking for some headphones (absolute noob to the hobby) and I first heard a Rev 2.1 powered by an April Music Eximus amp/dac. Was blown away.

Still waiting on my WA6SE but out of the Yamaha they sound neutral with a touch of warmth and very smooth.

Was there any info from Audeze on the serial number where the LCD-2 changed over to the new pads?
Yes, on the headphones.com forum.

Hello, LCD-2 family! I saw someone saying they implemented new pads after 54302xx, mine are 54305xx. What is the difference in the pads?
Difference is how deep the pads are and the type of foam that is used inside the pads. The depth of the new pads is reduced and brings the headphones closer in. The new foam is a little floppier than the old foam in general more similar to a pillow. The density of the foam is variable… more dense in front of the ear and less behind the ear. It affects the frequency response slightly trading a Db or two in sub-bass for quite a bit more ear-gain. It still requires some EQ in my opinion.
I have been using the sonarworks filters and they work well for me with some slight adjustments.

How do you like yours on the SMSL?

Yamaha headphone output specs.
Thats not even tickling the drivers of the LCD-2. Goddam Nz post taking two months to deliver the WA6SE.

Nice, but why would one need this for LCD-2? I found it very easy to drive.

Some people find it reassuring to have tons of extra unused power on top of the roughly 10mW needed to get the LCD-2 uncomfortably loud. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To be fair though, the OP just seems interested in making use of the gear he already owns.

I think the thing might be that people EQ them and then they need significantly more power to get them loud? I’m not entirely sure. I run mine off my MacBook Pro and they get loud at like 80% volume with EQ. I’m still in the process of finding a good amp/DAC for them but raw power is not on my list of “features”.
