Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

Nope. The LCD-2 that I refer to are LCD-2F with wooden cups. They have pleather pads now, but years ago they had real leather.
Do they come with pleather by default? They still sell leather pads in the Audeze store along with the pleathers ("leather-free," made from egg protein) as well. Answered by @Lohb below.

You can choose...looking across 2/2f/LCD-XC much the same.
Even if you keep the shape the same and use leather, there is variation in the grade
of leather and how it ages. Can be seen with how one pad ages faster than the other.
Anyway, I've seen no other after-market pad identical with same grade of leather as the Audeze

Interesting. When Audeze replaced the drivers in my 2014 LCD-2F, they came back with new pleather earpads. The other pair of LCD-2F that I bought in 2016 came with pleather earpads. In both cases I didn't know there was any other option.

On my pair of LCD-2.2 from 2012, the pads themself where still good, but the part closest to the cups where fraying. I put a pair of Dekoni Elite Sheepskin on them, and I thought they where better than stock. The Dekonis are thicker and softer with a bit smaller room for the ears.

My Aluminum 2F from 2017 were listed as having and, more importantly, do have lambskin earpads.

My original pads are doing the same on my LCD-2.2’s,can u recall how the Dekonis effected the sound compared to the originals?

I bought my LCD-2F B-Stock from Audeze in 2019 (Shedua) but I still covet the aluminum-cupped LCD-2’s for the look. 😅

Haha... I've always kind of wanted the bamboo ones! I guess the grass is always greener, etc.

does anyone use these for gaming?

are footsteps easy to make out iyo?

i love them for music and gaming and all other media and they are my favorite open back, but for certain games like call of duty or everwatch i feel like the footstep sounds are quieter then other headphones

i have the latest version with the new grille and shedua wood if it matters

also i know the z1r is closed back, but how would you compare the z1r vs current lcd-2f? are they equally as good iyo and just different sound signatures?
In fallout 4 having a few ghouls crawl out around you, or hearing a mongrel snarl behind you is pretty chilling in these, and foot steps to me seem easy to hear. Sounds behind you sound actually behind you. Tho for gaming a mobius or penrose might be better suited.

greetings

I have 2 drivers I want to mount on the audeze cups, does anyone know if the lower serial number is the right side or left side, as the serial number on the cups on one driver is lower by 1 than the other side

So after using the LCD-2F for about a week now, I can honestly say they are just too heavy. If they weighed about 100-120grams less, I would keep them. Especially after EQing them, very pleasant to listen to. Not quite as detailed and clear as the Ananda I have also been using for about 3 weeks, but they hold their own for most genres.

Is there any possibility in the future Audeze do yet another revision and try to lighten anything on them they can? Switching out the metal parts, like the grill, headband and swivel for lighter materials like carbon fiber or strong plastic. My neck cannot handle these cans for too long. Other aspects are comfy, like the very plush earpads and suspension system.

If Audeze starts using a bunch of plastic and single-sided magnets, then they're going to lose a lot of people too. Personally, I'd rather they ended up weighing a full kilogram than nerf the build quality and magnetic field strength.

Majority of weight is in the planar discs...rest is featherweight and you can balance the lot on tip of your finger.
I'd say its coming (lighter weight) - without wonking the tunings across the line (total guess there).

The likes of Arya/EtherCX just don't have the low-end meatiness/grunt of 2/XC...they have a more ethereal whispy presentation.
So the LCD line holds that niche still.

That is why I suggested Carbon fiber. Still can have the high end look, but lose 80-100 grams easily. At the moment they are just unpleasant to listen to for more than 30 minutes. Not to mention EQ is a requirement. Not that is an issue for me, I EQ all my headphones, just at $1000 I would expect better tuning across the frequency.
