No i'm not surprised at all, the dragonfly red does sound better than cipher cable on the isine 20 too and so does the ES100 bluetooth dac it's even better. People have overrated the cipher cable too much here, bcause they are not able to work with a decent EQ software or they do not know how EQ work.

...or we don’t want to need to EQ to get a sound signature we like. :D

I do like that the ES100 allows me to EQ my earphones, but other than playing with it once, I basically never use it. I do see it as a superb feature, though, since particularly on iOS, there’s no way to EQ sound systemwide with only software.

Personally, i don't like to EQ my headphones, i am just lazy and like to plug and listen(and like what i am listening without any work or tweaks) :)

I preferred the sound of my Hifiman HM901 Single ended with iSine20 over both V1and V2 cables.

I have yet to even try the iSine 10 with the 3.5mm-terminated cable. I've only used it with the Cipher cable and it sounds superb, and so haven't felt motivated to try the analog cable.

I used iSine 20 for over a year with analog cable and external DAC. Didn't think all the cipher fuss was what is was all cracked up to be. Now using an iPhone 7 as a music player, I purchased a Cipher cable very to try out. Jaw hit floor, and I listened for about 4hrs straight. IMO, the Audeze optimization for the Cipher cable makes a big improvement over USB DACs where an individual cannot implement eq

There are not many dac's that have decent EQ software. The reason why cipher for you had a jaw dropping experience is bcause your external dac had no decent EQ and bcause the isine 20 are responding wonderful to EQ optimalisations, the drivers have almost zero distortion so that means you can make / push them to any level or make them sound like anything you want which is amazing ofcourse. BUT again only with good implemented software

Thats only thing that the cipher cable does: EQ correction/coloration with decent software/firmware in combo. I have compared it many times and the ultimate winner for me was the ES100 with viper4android equalizer

Yes, and it is also quite great!

realized that the carrying case is not suitable for daily use, especially with the ear hook and BT module

    Any better recommendation?

i am thinking a semi-rigid case with a partition to separate L and R so that they will not rub against each other.
