I guess I'll check-in with an opinion: I'm not too thrilled with the idea--never was from the very first auction way back when. It seems crass, out of character, just not in line with my own percieved image of Head-Fi, but I'm probably way out of step anyway right?

I think that if we are going to allow auctions here we should have some "official" rules for them. This last one looked a bit confused from where I sit. I personally don't mind auctions here, but there is someting to what pigmode said about them not being in line with his/my percieved image of Head-Fi.

Just my 2 cents.

No.

OBO means "if I can't get this asking price, I'll get the next best price I'm offered".

Auctions have no asking price, just a reserve or minimal sale price.

The farce that the last one (Grado, Cosmic, Melos) has become should be a good indicator that Head-Fi is not set up for auctions.

I really do think some guidlines are in order and in fact I kind of like kelly's idea of a form of some sort, it would make things much clearer from the get go. For example, the last auction didn't even start as one. It was only when the guy realized that there was quite a bit of interest that he decided to change his mind and his post. Very confusing. It's now almost 12 hours after the "auction" was supposed to have ended but no one seems to know who won.

No auctions for me too...

Auctions work when there is sufficient interest to drive the price up. So if few participate they will just go away. I normally confine myself to silent auctions for charity.

If nothing else, I think that auction threads simply bump other legitimate FS (For Sale) threads far too soon, thus limiting their visibility. That is also the reason I vote for no replies in the ForSale forum.

If you want them, then create another forum for auctions.

JMT: The horse was just playing possum.

This whole situation and discussion has not been endured for nothing. I'm fairly certain, once the dust settles, some sort of policy or guidline changes will be undertaken.
