ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

Glad you mentioned that, Opeth is one of my favourite bands and the RATM/Audioslave/Soundgarden/etc. genre is probably what I listen to the most these days along with hip hop. A lot of guitar heavy stuff in my playlists.

Agreed, guitar-centric music is mostly what I listen to as well. Might have to switch to Team Atticus!

I added a page on "wood" to our site:  http://www.zmfheadphones.com/wood/

If I missed anything glaring let me know and I'll carve out a small section for it.

"carve out a small section" (pun!)

Two comments:

1. New wood section is great. Not only is this information graphical, useful & relevant to ZMF products--but as far as I know, it exceeds anything other headphone mfrs provide. Kudos!

2. However, it makes certain wood-lovers among us go nuts to read names of "woods we've used" that aren't currently available in the Omni, Atticus or Eikon (Manchurian/Tamo Ash...Brazilian Rosewood...omigod!).

Some of this seems to contradict the 'Wood Info' section on the Omni's shop page.
E.g., Bubinga is listed as having medium/large pores on the latter, while it is refered to as having small pores in former.
Generally speaking, a finer scale for pores would be welcome.
Probably there is no good unit for comparison of pore size.

Good find, they really are Small/Medium I'd say, I'll make the correction.  And noted!  At some point I'll try to make a list with pore info for each wood.  The difference is so minute aurally among pore sizes I don't want to go too crazy on it as to confuse people.

So what do I lose if I go with the Cherry Eikon vs the Padauk Eikon as far as sound?
Do I gain anything?
Will I even notice?

I like lighter colored woods like Cherry more so than dark woods, so Cherry would be my preference, everything being equal. (which we know it's not...)

We're using a beech wood baffle in the Atticus and Eikon, because of the baffle being wood, and because we are utilizing the driver tube, I don't think the changes in sound are as significant as with the t50 based planar headphones like the Omni/Blackwood/Vibro.

That being said, Padauk does sound a touch faster, and Cherry a touch more lush.

Thanks Zach. I'm still torn, but that's on me.
