I think this calls for a non-sequiter.

you're right. i just looked at mine and they're the same all the way around. the only difference is that one of the edges in the rear of the housing is bumped up. i'm so easily fooled

the W5000 and the AD2000 did not fit me properly, they were open at the top of the cups with too much pressure on the bottom and it kills the bass response. i also could not bend the headband enough while they were assembled. i took them apart and used tools to get a perfect fit and total seal, it drastically improved the sound and comfort and im going to post a step by step guide hopefully this weekend if i can find the time.

its really a shame they fit stock they way do, i cant imagine anyones head is that wide, maybe Stewie Griffin.

Now that I've found the W5000 owners rounded up in one thread: how would you compare this to the Sony CD3000? SQ first, ALWAYS. (have any of you heard the cd3k?)

I've heard neither.

I've never heard the CD3000 but people have told me its SQ is not so good since it isn't an AKG.

CD3000 made me sleepy, it was very warm out of the Woo amp it was plugged into, not engaging... at all.... And its not an AKG.

Yes. W5000 is an AKG. Don't let those Audio-Technica engineers confuse you. That warrants me saying that I like W5000 better. And my k240m cause I have it unlike the others.

So here's a question: in general, what head shape do you think the W5000 sits best on? Larger or smaller? Longer or shorter?

Clearly it was designed for the same person who fits a large size Qualia 010.

its a width issue, ear to ear i think the average person would need an extra 2 inches to allow the cups to sit flush(parallel) to the head for a good seal.

This could be good news for me, as I have a large head, which usually works against me in this hobby.

Being Japanese and for the Japanese market, you would assume a slightly smaller head...

I've owned AD900's and currently ATH-L3000's (for sale if anyone is interested) and found them both to be very very comfortable, unlike my AKG701's which for some reason but pressure on the top of my head which becomes painful after a while.

Yes, the K701s did that to me as well. In addition, I could never get the cups low enough around my ears; the bottom of the cups was always pulling up on the bottom of my ear. Add to that the strap digging into my skull, ugh... those cans were bad news for my dome.

sent you a PM about the L3000, I know a guy who is looking to buy.
