Spent some time with these gorgeous cans at head-fest. Unfortunately I must have an odd shaped head, no matter how I adjusted them I simply could not get a proper seal, and uniform fit around my ears. I couldn't get the top-rear of the earpads to close completely against my head?

Are all the high end AT woodies like this?

Curious... definitely a real eye-opener, and I must-try before I buy.

thanks!!

Did you try to bent outward at the cups, and inward at the top of the headband.
That should make them more | | than \ /.
With proper fit the difference in bass impact is amazing.

I had the same problem when I got mine. The solution is to bend the headband at both the top point (to adjust clamping - though there's never any real clamping force) and about an inch from where the band goes into the plastic (to adjust the angle to make it fit your head better).

I was pretty reluctant at first to violate my brand new beautiful cans at first, but they were so extremely bass shy that I had to give it a whirl, and it worked like a charm! Now I just loooove my W5000's! I've used my HD650's maybe 20 mins altogether since I got the W5000's. ^^

I actually have mine more \ / than | |.
With more clamping I found that \ / gave me a better seal. Also, as time goes by and the pads adjust to your head, the seal & sound gets even better.

Isn't it true that recently manufactured W5000 have a smaller/tighter headband compared to earlier ones?

I'd also had the same experience with the W5000. They just don't fit my head. On the other hand, I have the A900 and A900LTD and have no issue.

Strange ?

w5000 seems to use different pads from other ATs. I compared to other high end ATs and the pads on them are softer, narrower, and thicker. There is two things at play though, not just fit but positioning. They should be as forward as possible without bothering your ears, otherwise bass impact subsides and you lose the soundstage quality. I do not get perfect seal per-say, but it is very comfortable because it allows the skin under the pads to breathe =]

Pads will form accordingly with the shape of your head as time passes. Give em a good spin for a week and you should have better fit regarding the earcups.

Getting the right fit can take a while. Be sure to give them at least ten minutes in one position before discounting it, as they do settle somewhat.

I find they are best pushed towards the back of my head a bit. Haircut matters too - I find with shorter hair cut closer to the side of my head they are a lot better than with long hair.

Oh god, what have I done... best haircut for 'phones thread anyone?
