The price tag is definitely very attractive, giving everyone a change to taste one of the best if not the best headphones out there, build quality is amazing, stunning finish with a much attractive look.

Its the performance that will be the key decider.

Still, I haven't seen a whole lot of talk on the W5000 around here.

No, W1000X is not a replacement, W5000 is still the top model of the current ATH line. Many, myself included, consider them the best in production dynamics.

x2

I have not heard the HD800, the T1 or the PS1000, but of the cans I've heard I also rank this and the AD2000 as among the very best dynamics available in production yet today. Like all headphones, they have their detractors, and their flaws or perceived flaws are well documented, as well as their strengths, many of which were noted in the attached article.

These aren't new, and they certainly aren't anywhere near the top headphone. Nice, yes, but definitely not top. I'd put D7000 way ahead of them and that STILL isn't even getting close to the top headphone. They sit more at a D5000 with JMoney pads level.

I've heard the D7000 are arguably the best closed cans in production...must be many

Really? Jan 19th 2010? These have been there forever and have a "love or hate" nature to them. Some people absolutely love the sound, with quite possibly the best sounding midrange, and great soundstage for a closed phone. Some people dont like the colored, bass light sound with emphasis on mids and treble and the massive size with no clamping which is too loose for some. These are certainly not neutral cans, but they are held very high in status by some folks.

This is the 2nd time I heard that the instrument separation is better then the HD800's.. If so, pretty impressive.. I still laugh at the 1,600 MSRP.. They don't even sell close to that.. I still want to try one.. These were my 'dream' headphones when I first registered at this site 4 yrs ago..

If that's the case I'am sure you would've had a chance to audition them, what do owners of these headphones feel.
