Well as the title says it, I'm looking among those. I like the first two for the fact that they are a closed design, and therefor become general purpose headphones for me. If I get one of the Grado's I would then be forced to get some sort of iem, for general use with my ipod etc. I was truthfully leaning toward the ATH-ES7. But I really Have no idea what I'm looking for.

I'm a college student, would primarily be listening to Classic Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Classical from my laptop/ipod w/o an amp. Hopefully somebody can help my confused self.

well, I would narrow this search to 2 HP in the beginning - ES7 and Alessandro Music Series 1 (not SR60/80)

SO, the thing is - what do you need in an HP?

if you can, I would probably recomend get both, as they are quite different - open/closed, different sound signatures, different strenghs, (...)

grados would perform in rock pretty well. but i think its too forward/bright for blues cllassical jazz. as far as the iem goes. in inlove with my er4p.

i have the hd580 and think the soundstage of this is suitable to classical(very wide) so as to jazz and blues for it is a little bit laid back........but deailed(but you need an amp for them).

good luck it very hard to recommend a really nice phone that would fit all ur musical needs for it is too diverse.

hmmm...
The MS-1 looked quite interesting too. I really might start looking into that one harder.

Damn different needs. I need something closed as to not bother my roomates etc. But I can easily accomplish that with using my current headphones. Junky that they are. Damn now things are really up in the air.

It's only money right?

why not try the mdr v6 its very decent for the price. if every thing fails the v6 would be there, it very versatile. in my opinion it very hard to find a closed headphones with a very wide soundstage and some of musical taste demands it. well ur are already bitten by the headfi bug.........so there you go.

good luck

ety and ms1 combo should do it for you they dont need amps eitherso youll be good if you can throw the v6 in the mix it would not hurt so youll have a full size portable cans

man, I have both, and I really believe they (ms1 and ES7) are a great match for first closed/open couple

I bought first my MS1, and loved them! you can use them even in a dorm if you dont play music too loud, but be warned - they leak like hell as they are as open as it gets!

ES7 is a different history... they are closed (but also be warned - not like they are soundproof.. nothing like that!) IMO they do their task.. and they have very good bass and excelent soundstage, which i love (as MS1 has some lack in this field...)

I think you will love them both!

Cheers!

Right now I'm thinking I'll get the es7's and maybe after a bit I'll look into the ms-1's for home use. ES7's look like they'll travel well too. Always a plus as I seem to be going on little side trips every so often.

Well it's still up in the air.

yeah the cable on the grados is 3 meters long, have fun takin that outside!

the MS-1s will make you happy, although some people use them to listen to the wrong music and complain about lack of bass. make sure anything with detail is what you listen to!

Queen =)

I'm not quite sure yet actually I still have a couple days to decide. ES7 or MS-1 looks pretty good, the MS-1 I might have to hold out until either December or next Summer when I'll get a significantly long enough break to appreciate them, without disturbances. Either me disturbing people or them disturbing me.

Currently I'm listening to Pink Floyd, and I would not consider my self a bass head in the least in fact it used to give me a headache as a child, at least a significant amount of it.

I'm going to get the ES7's for on-the-go use because they fold flat and will go into a backpack well with less risk of damage. Just something else to consider.

Once they're burned in, ES7 is a nice little budget closed can (tho I agree w/ Ricmat, not particularly leakproof/isolating)...mine just get nicer & nicer.

Happy hunting!

Should be fine - altho ES7 doesn't seal you away 100%, it is still much better than an open phone, IME.
