So I'm seriously considering a good headphone solution considering I just ruined my apple ear pods that i've been using for 2 years, and now i'm using 10 dollar rip off ones that have reversed channels (Cannot play any game where positioning is important + they are tinny sounding since they're 10 dollars)

For a while i was considering going for some cheap Superluxs or Takstars but I decided instead to go for something legit that will last like a set of AD700Xs with a modmic, but for 70 dollars more I can get ADG1s which come with a very good mic and a USB DAC. I would still go the modmic route if something pops up, but at the moment the ADG1s seem like good value for only 70 dollars more with a DAC + mic. I know the DAC probably isn't great but its nice to have i guess.

However, i assume the reason they are good value at the moment is because they are being phased out for the new ADG1Xs. I can get the new ADG1Xs for 60 dollars more, but since they're relatively new there aren't really any good comparison videos or reviews. So does anyone here know if they're worth the extra money? I don't think they come with a DAC but I do have high end onboard SC and i'm not an audiophile so I am not that concerned, I just want the good soundstage for FPS and decent audio for everything else.

It's a decent investment so the extra 60 isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but are they really $60 better?

Just a side note they will be used for a bit of competitive FPS gaming, which is why i'm going the open back route. But also a bit of music, youtube, teamspeak etc. maybe even movies. I am aware that open air, particularly AT are a bit bass light, but i'm not a bass head and i assume with a bit of EQ they will give decent enough bass coming from apple earpods.

Thanks, Liam

I would rather use a $20 sound card (Asus Xonar DG) then a USB DAC that comes with headphones.
Maybe get a used SB-Z card ($65-$70?)
I doubt the gaming headset's USB DAC comes with any "true" headphone surround sound support.

Here are some used ATH-AD700X headphones for a really good price.
(current bid is $41)

Modmic, $50?

Yeah like I said, even if i get the headset with the USB DAC I will likely just use my onboard (at least for now) since I am not really an audiophile.

Also ModMics here are 70-80 dollars, everything is expensive in Australia, and a new set of AD700Xs is $170, so unless i went for AD500Xs or got a dirt cheap mic, a set of ATH-ADG1s are still equally priced or cheaper. So ultimately it is still probably the most convenient option, and unless I find a good deal on 700s it will be cheapest.

You haven't sent the right eBay link, bear in mind I am in Australia so shipping and exchange rates can be killer, and I would prefer to buy new for RMA/Warranty reasons

Edit: My onboard is ALC 898 which is supposedly one of the best onboards to date.

Also, the used market in Australia for any PC parts and other electronics isn't very good, often there isnt much available and the asking prices are pretty high. And from what I've read; unless I want to spend a large amount of money my onboard is as good or better than most cheap soundcards available

And as far as finding headphones go there is only 1 set on there that is local and worth looking at, and with shipping it would still work out around 100 dollars, and shipping from the states is 43 dollars
