I was just wondering at what age, approx, does growth halt, or slow down to insignificance? I'm pretty short (18yrs, 5' 5"), and am hoping to gain some height. I'm asian, and my current height is pretty normal. But living in America, I'm really short compared to everyone else. I know height growth varies from person to person, but could you just me a guesstimate of age?

(before you mention it, I know I shouldn't care about my height, but it has appeared to become an important factor)

If you're male your growth usually slows down from around age 17, but some people continue to grow until they're well into their twenties.

/U. - who stopped growing at 6'5"

Well I am still growing at 20...if you're that short you'd better look at drugs to get taller. Since you're asian you are going to be naturally short sorry. You might be able to get some HGH if you can get a doctor to prescribe it. Think it's like 2-4 thousand a month but you grow no matter what as long as your bones haven't set. If you haven't got all your body hair and wisdom teeth you have not even finished pueberty btw.

I don't think I fully stopped until I was about 21-22. I had my driver's license renewed this year, and according to my height measurement on it, I grew a bit over an inch since the last time I had my license done when I was 20. Of course, I should note that I'm 25 and I still can't grow facial hair.

I'm khmer, so I don't know how tall we can reach. I've seem some of us that are really tall (past 6') which I consider amazing. I just want to grow at least two inches (5' 7"). My cousin is that height and he doesn't look short to most people. The last time I went to a khmer wedding reception, most of the people there were around my height or shorter. Also, My mom is 5' and my dad is 5' 3".

Aerius, I can barely grow facial hair also (except on my chin). Although I've met guys that have full-blown beard who are younger than I am.

You cannot imagine how much money you're saving on razors and just the plain hassle of shaving.

those growth spurts are expensive.

My 10 year old son is 5'4" and is expected to reach 6'10" if his doctor is correct. He hasn't grown for a full year and I'm scared he's gonna wake up one day as a six footer. I haven't grown an inch(in height that is) since I was sixteen. I'm the shortest person in my family,(I'm right at six feet) my mom is 6'2",my dad is 6'4" and my shortest brother is 6'3". My 14 year old daughter is 5'11" so I guess everybody in my family is really tall except for me and my older daughter who is 5'6" and does'nt want to grow anther inch. I don't know the exact answer to your question but I've seen folks grow three inches after the age of 21 and I gotta think it's all in the genes.

epiphyseal plates generally close by about age 20 in males and 17 in females if i recall correctly. i'm sure the ages vary according to the individual though. i have no idea when i stopped growing. 5'11", but i wouldn't mind being a little taller.

This growth thing is really strange. I'm 6'5" and my brother is 6'3". My mother is 5'2" and my father is 5'8" so where all the height comes from is a bit of a mystery...

But, even more mysteriously, both my brother and my father have bigger feet than I have (and mine are a respectable size 11).

Kirosia, you'll probably grow at least another few inches over the next two-three years

PS: Tuberoller, my doctor's prediction of my height was spot on so you probably better start saving up for your son's new clothes

I hear these height predictions are fairly accurate so I am indeed bracing myself. I have bigger feet than my brothers and dad as well. I wear a size 12 and my son already wears a size 10. My son is tall but very agile runs fast and is very strong. He's not tall and lanky but he does feel uncomfortable about his height and tends to crouch a bit when he's around shorter people.
