AT a55 vs a500 differences

is there a big difference between these two phones. after checking on audiocubes.com i found that a500 is newer and has D.A.D.S (whatever this adds to the sound quality, i don't know). But are there any big sound quality differences between the a55 and a500? And are these AT headphones comparable to other closed headphones in this price range in terms of sound (for music and gaming) and comfort($100)?

I don't know of any of the regulars that have purchased these. The only one I can think of is dohminator who I believe has the A55's. Most of the others, including dohminator, have purchased the higher end AT's like the W100, W1000, A100ti and A1000.

I suspect that D.A.D.S will give the A500 an advantage in the bass over the A55 but I have no proof of that. Also according to bangraman the word on some of the asian webboards is the A500 is similar in sound to the A900 but less detailed and less refined. This is all speculation though so take it with a grain of salt.

HI: How are you. I never heard either of these cans. But if I had to chose one of then I would chose the one with the D.A.D.S. system. I have the ATH-A1000 that has the D.A.D.S. systen and the dads have great bass and and an overall fullness to the cans. I have also had the ATH-100ti that didnot have the D.A.D.S. and sounded nowhere as great as the ATH-A1000.

thanks for the replys guys. most likely I'm gonna go ahead and get the a500 from audiocubes. the only thing holding me back is audiocubes doesn't allow returns like headroom, so I'm really hoping these headphones are good. I really wonder if this D.A.D.S thing makes the a500 better than the a55 (they are the same price, so it's even more confusing!!)...

Audiocubes hasn't reduced the older phones... Come to think of it many shops in Japan haven't, either. Tell us what you think of them please, I think we're all interested in what the lower ATH-AXXX series are like, especially as the A500 and the 700 have completely different drivers compared to the A900/1000.
