Hi friends,

After the less interesting part of RMAA tests of the Xonar which are very similar to these of the Razer AC-1 and the X-Fi Platinum Pro. Today I've finished with the sound tests of the Xonar compared to the Emu1212m.

The system was K1000 for headphones, and an upgraded Omega-Audio Encore 705 for speakers (Omega-Audio is originally a part of Morel - very similar products).

The sound test is a part of a review on the card I'm making for an Israeli hardware test, so its mostly in hebrew. I've only translated the most important things to English so you'll have an idea of the sound.

First, the sound of the card is very fast. The bass is very very tight. It gives a punch and goes away. The treble is a bit stronger than the rest of the frequencies, yet very very accurate and detailed. The mids is good as well with good detail and separation. In comparison to the 1212M the Xonar has a very similar sound stage in width, yet a bit larger in depth. The image is also about the same as the 1212M, yet feels a bit more "realistic", as if you can really touch the instruments with your hand. The detail in the treble is better in the Xonar, yet the mid is a bit less detailed than the 1212M. With the 1212M you can separate diffrent vocals easier than with the Xonar.

Overall, the Xonar is completely better, yet, the sound is in about the same level. These of you who look for a bit brighter/sharper sound than the 1212M offers, the Xonar is a great card. With the 7.1 options, a very stable driver, and a DD live and DTS connect support, the Xonar really is a great card. Only down side of it is the game performance which are much worse than the X-Fi cards.

Could you make some pictures of the used components on the board, and what you stated with "Only down side of it is the game performance which are much worse than the X-Fi cards." do you have an benchmark result for that, in a real game i mean.

[EDIT]
Already found them here.

Must say, that is one good looking Soundcard!

As for the FPS, I didn't make the graphs yet, but here are a few numbers of the XonarD2 vs. Razer AC-1 vs. Realtek ALC-850:
The X-Fi I used to own has a few FPS results, but I used a diffrent video card and 1GB of RAM, so the results aren't the same.

3DMARK03 Sound Test:
No Sound - 57.2
24 Sound - ASUS:43.9, Razer:43.2, Realtek:47.8
60 Sounds - ASUS:37.1, Razer:35.7, Realtek:No Support
BF2:
ASUS:61.8
Razer:60.4
Realtek:69.4
COD2:
ASUS:21.3
Razer:20.9
Realtek:19.7

BTW, the PC is:
P4 2.4C
ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe
4x512MB A-DATA Viesta
XFX 6800GT
