Astell & Kern SR25: The next A&norma player
Sep 22, 2020 at 9:30 AM Post #886 of 2,745
Hello all,

I recently upgraded my player from a Fiio X7 to the Astell & Kern A&norma SR25 and have a few "noob" questions I hope I can get help with.
First, how do I register my player (I am in Denmark),? I can't seem to find any place on the A&K site to do this.

Second, are there any presets for the EQ and how do I add them manually? I listen to a variety of music but mostly Rock from the past 50 years.

Thanks in advance...

Hi GreenBow,
i believe we are talking about two different things. Some daps have a volume limit that you can activate and also turn it off. I have that in my SONY NWA-55L. The SR25 also has a volume limit that you can activate. Here

A different thing is the volume cap of European Sony models. In some of them like my Sony nwa-55L you can uncap the volume changing the region. In other Sonys like the nwa-105 that I bought and returned since it is imposible to uncap the volume. I do not know about your Sony but this problem has been extensively reported in the Sony threads. This is a big problem for many iems and mainly for headphones. The European cap volume of the Sonys is ridiculously low. In my case I could not use my Sennheiser HD599 which is a rather easy to drive headphone (50 ohms). This is different from the volume limit.
The SR25 has optional volume limit but no volume cap. Hope it helps!

Yeah that's very cool. Volume limit seems to be just like my ZX300. I can go over the volume limit but it reminds now and again that I have.

Looks great in its case.

For the UK, you would need to send the player to our EU repair center located in Germany. Your dealer could assist or you can contact the EU repair center directly to arrange repair through our online form at https://www.iriver.com/support/RMA_001.asp

Going to be honest. Thank you for being honest too.

Sending off the DAP anywhere, and at worst abroad, worries me. We hear scare stories about kit coming back covered in marks, whereas I keep my kit in mint condition. I wish they made them with replaceable batteries. Or at least told us the battery model so we could source it and replace ourselves. (Even if soldering is required.)

However I would really like the SR25, so I might have to compromise and hope for battery sources later. I don't know though, so I will just see how it goes.

Does anyone know how much output power in mW the SR25 has?
Not entirely sure if typical power calculation formula is applicable for DAP standards (VrmsSquared/load impedance), but this how I would estimate SR25's power output. Hope someone can confirm or correct it.

A&K quotes (no load) unbalanced Vrms as 2V; balanced Vrms as 4V.
32ohm load: 125mW; 500mW
320ohm load: 12.5mW; 50mW
600ohm load: 6.67mW; 25mW

Another quick question, is there any way to increase the mini keyboard size or can anyone recommend a stylus that actually works with the SR25? My fat little fingers have one heck of a time trying to type the desired letter or symbol.
Thanks,

I've been enjoying the SR25. Since I haven't been traveling much lately I've mostly used it as DAC with my PC--works great. Today, I was saddened to see the back of the player popped out and won't go back in place. It seems like the battery has expanded and now it doesn't fit.

@JasonNYC : can you please advise?

Just a quick thing that I never knew, but you can swip left/right to change the song using the touch screen. Pretty neat. :)

Could also use the touch screen to adjust the volume (once the knob has been turned). It's a quicker way to make a larger adjustment. :smile_phones:
