Astell & Kern SR15: A&norma Impressions & Reviews

Hi all,

I really like this little gem and use it a lot. Waiting for Roon to arrive (I find the SR15 sometimes a bit of a hassle to deal with, especially with its cover on) and will be all set. I find one thing really annoying: this Back button (Android?) at the bottom right of the user interface. Especially when using Qobuz, because there is where the search function is and the back button and search button overlap.

Can I get rid of the Back button or is there some other way to access the Qobuz search button?
Tx in advance,

Jeroen

If press and hold the back button you can move it around your screen

You can definitely move the button. Mine is a bit higher now which helps.

I completely agree about the case. I love having on there but find it’s really a challenge to get the menu to pull down.

Is there some trick to locating the Tidal "My Mix 1" Playlist on the AK Tidal app? Can't seem to find it ...

"My Mix" isn't accessible directly on the app. However, I did a work around to make it available on the app and to be downloaded on the side-loaded APK version. On the desktop app, I created a manual playlist called "My Mix 1 PL". Then I just added the songs from My Mix PL to the the playlist I created. Then access My Mix PL 1 via the "My Music" and "My Playlist" section of the app. Works for both the built-in app on the SR15, as well as the side-loaded APK version.

Hi Jason.
Is there any firmware update whereby can fix issue having handshake compatibility with dac that are non xmos receivers.
I have no problem with dacs that are xmos base and fgpa like chord products.
Thanks
do you have an example of one of the DACs that you are having issues with?

Hi all,
does anybody know which fixes are included in FW 1.14? It is OTA but this time no info on the official A&K notes section?! Well, I applied it, but just curious what it is for.
The latest firmware update contains bug fixes and OS optimizations. I don't have any specifics on what bug fixes there were.

Hi
I'm a lurker here and I've read every single page of this thread last night, but I'm suffering from information overload.

MQA Tidal tracks help please.

I believe I can download to SD card and play offline but am I right in thinking this must be through side loaded APK?

Thanks in advance.

Correct. Tidal offline mode is only available on the sideloaded Tidal app.

Thanks for prompt response.

I just purchased a 2nd hand unit that allegedly has been used twice with case and 200gb card for sensible money. It's for my son and his 17 year old ears. Everything else I had looked at, again wading through head-fi, seemed to be a question being prepared to live with issues.

From an outside point of view, what sold this unit for me was this entire thread is pretty much talking about what iem's to choose (my next expensive headache) and user understanding of how to operate.

I was looking at Onkyo DP-X1 or FiiO NX5iii, but both come with problems before even taking into consideration the difference in sound quality.

It should be with me Saturday.

A big thanks to all that have posted here, as it became quickly apparent that this player is a quality item.

Just an update to this. The above solution is for the sideloaded APK Tidal version 2.11.0. I just updated to the side loaded APK version 2.11.4 and the My Mix playlists show up in the "My Collection" section. From here, it's easy to stream. To make a downloadable playlist:

1. Go to the My Mix section
2. Click on the desired My Mix playlist
3. Click on "+ Create playlist"
4. The "Add to Playlist" dialogue will appear, click on "Create New Playlist" at the bottom
5. The "Create New Playlist" name dialogue will appear, and default to "My Mix (number)" All the My Mix Playlist tracks will appear as well
6. Either accept the recommended name or create you own and the click "Create" and the playlist is created with all the My Mix Playlist tracks from that My Mix
7. To download for offline listening, to "My Collection" and "Playlists". Click on the playlist, and in the playlist, toggle on the download switch.

This works for both the SR15 and the SP1000M. I'll assume it will also work on the SP1000.

Hi All,

Does anyone have any views on a good set of on-ear headphones to pair with SR15.

I've had the SR15 for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. I'm using it with a pair of AKG N40 in-ear phones that I got for c.£200 and am using a balanced cable. It sounds fantastic on these, and moving to the balanced cable I thought improved them further.

The problem is, while I love the sound of the N40s, I feel like they sit too far into my ear and it irritates me. I'm usually on the move when I listen to music, and think over-ear headphones will be a little too bulky for me, so was considering on-ear headphones instead, around the same kind of price as my AKGs, or maybe a little more.

I liked the sound of the balanced output, though all the on-ear headphones I've looked at only ever seem to have the standard 3.5mm connection.

Any suggestions for a good pair?

Cheers.
