Astell & Kern SE100: A&futura Impressions - Reviews

I have tried connecting the SE100 direct into my hifi rather than through a Hugo 2 as I normally do.
I assume the Line Out is shared with the 3.5 headphone out? Or maybe not, as when switching Line Out ON or Off from drop-down menu, there is no difference to volume?

There is little information in the Manual about the Line Out. other than the menu item.

There are some line out settings within the settings menu for line out voltage

Yes, I altered between 1 and 2 volts and volume was left unchanged, that's why it seems ON/OFF doing nothing on 3.5 out. Can @JasonNYC please confirm what output Line Out is on?

@AndrewH13 Line out will work with either the 3.5mm or 2.5mm headphone output. If you happen to plug into both the 3.5mm and 2.5mm, it defaults to the 2.5mm.

For USB digital out, you would not turn on the Line Out setting, but hit the "external USB" button in the quick settings menu once connected to the device via USB.

Thanks Jason, I must be using it then on 3.5 output! But volume is adjustable and switched on and off, there is no discernible difference to headphone out. I assumed line out would be fixed at max.

@AndrewH13 Volume should be fixed when Line Out is enabled. You should an icon in the notification bar showing a circle with an up arrow.

Just trying it out since the last update, it looks like they changed the Line Out function slightly. I'm not sure if it is a bug, I will ask our team, but when you enable line out and hit the volume button, you will see "Line Out" appear on screen. Press that button and it will fix the volume and apply the Line Out voltage set in the Line Out menu.

I just confirmed with our US support team that the extra step is a new safety feature implemented in the latest firmware. Previously, when you enabled Line Out, the volume was set at max and Line Out was enabled. If someone enabled Line Out by accident while wearing headphones, it could cause issues since the volume would be maxed out. The extra step protects against enabling the Line Out function unintentionally.

Ah I see now, after pressing Line Out, nothing happens. But after then turning Volume, Line Out segment appears, and after that pressed, all is revealed, lol. Certainly won’t happen by accident, pretty hidden until you know how!

Thanks for investigating Jason, appreciated.

PS, just rewired back up, now 2 volts much louder :)

I'm a bit worried now. It said it was charged 100% when I got up this morning but when I got home it didn't have enough power to even switch on. No one's used it all day!

It seems to me that gapless doesn’t work 100% with the latest FW.

Make some more charging cycles and keep an eye on a battery. Don’t panic yet :)

I've bought a new charging plug and it seems to be charging faster

If there is any problem it’s not related to a power of the charger.
