Will AK ever evolve to 4.4?
no, never, but may be to "mini-XLR" like on the CUbe

And for me the SP2000 is a very disapointing MINOR upgrade to the SP1000. After 3 years we were expecting much better from A&K for their flagship !

The things that are important: battery life, power output, screen quality, 4.4 mm balanced.
Is using the latest AK 4499 Eq X2, that's a real impressive audio chip, just reading the specifications.
Change battery ?

Many hi-end dacs such as linn kds, esoteric k1, sony z1 are still using 4497. I think adopting 4499 serves for marketing purpose. It is like putting an intel i9 into a cell phone!

Problems of AK devices:

- No detachable / replaceable battery. It'll be pain to replace battery once it dies... you can potentially damage your device.
- No 4.4mm balanced
- No dual micro SD card. Now 1TB micro SD card is available. It would be great to have 2TB DSD files on the go.

I wonder which current flagship DAP allows you to change the battery easily without dismantling the unit.

Sony ZX1 was a flagship model in 2014... its battery can be easily replaced. Search Sony ZX1 battery on ebay.
You can easily open up ZX1's fake rubber leather back cover and replace its battery.
Please note current. Cowon, Sony, AK, iBasso, Cayin, Lotoo has all inbuilt battery.
